Description:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the position satisfactorily. The requirements listed in this document are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Incumbent serves as Dishwasher/Kitchen Helper for Tippecanoe Villa, responsible for washing dishes, cleaning kitchen area, and assisting with meals.


DUTIES:


  • Washes dishes, pots/pans, and eating and cooking utensils after meals, including clearing items from serving trays, rinsing off food and operating garbage disposal, loading and running dishwasher, and returning items to proper storage areas.
  • Assists with meals by preparing and setting up beverages at serving area and keeping beverage area clean.
  • Assists in cleaning/sanitizing kitchen and dining areas as assigned, including emptying trash containers, washing storage areas, appliances, tables and chairs, and sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Assists in placing purchased food and supplies in storage areas.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGES:


  • Working knowledge of basic cleaning/sanitizing procedures and ability to properly mix and use general cleaning products and related tools and equipment, such as mops, broom, dishwasher, and garbage disposal.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions and work alone and with others in a team environment and with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with residents and co-workers in a courteous and tactful manner, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
  • Ability to comply with all employer and department polices and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Ability to work on several task at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure.
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions and present findings in oral or written form.
  • Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend and/or evening hours.


II. RESPONSIBILITY:


Incumbent performs simple, repetitive duties according to standardized procedures and requiring a low degree of care and skill to protect tools and prevent injury.


Incumbent reports directly to Dietary Supervisor.


III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:


Incumbent communicates with co-workers and residents for the purpose of exchanging information.


IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT:


Incumbent's duties involve walking/standing for long periods, bending, reaching, pushing/ pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, crouching/kneeling, and handling/ grasping/fingering objects. Incumbent may exert continuous physical effort, but intense physical strain is not required for normal duties.


V. WORKING CONDITIONS:


Incumbent performs duties in kitchen and dining areas of a residential facility for persons with physical and mental disorders, involving exposure to noise, cleaning chemicals and slippery surfaces for which safety precautions must be followed at all times to prevent injury to self and others.


Incumbent occasionally works extended, weekend and evening hours.
