JOB TITLE: Kitchen Assistant

FLSA STATUS : Non-Exempt 

HYBRID ELIGIBLE: No

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time  

REPORTS TO: Lead Chef

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: n/a  

REPORTING REQUIREMENT: Essential


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for   assisting the Director of Meal Services and the Chefs with preparing, serving   and cleaning up after all meal services and for packaging and delivering   meals for our Beyond the Table Mobile Meals Program. In addition, this role   ensures that meal guests are safe entering and existing the building during   meal services and while in the dining room. The Kitchen Assistant ensures   that the facility is clean and welcoming, and that health and safety   regulations are always adhered to.  

PRIMARY JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Assists Chef on duty to prepare nutritious meals   

Operation of cargo van to make daily meal deliveries, as needed.   

Greets all donors professionally with respect and ensures that all donations are recorded and appropriately stored and   organized in a timely manner to ensure food safety.
Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen equipment   

Provides support and guidance to volunteers in the kitchen during mealtimes and encourages other ST volunteer involvement opportunities   

Ensures that the kitchen/equipment/food and volunteers are fully in compliance with health regulations   

Ensures the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining room, dish room, prep area, storage area, laundry room and utility room
Washes pots, pans and dishes, as needed  

Secures the kitchen at all times   

Ensures all trash is removed from the kitchen   

Supports ST fundraising efforts through participation in events and other ways as needed   

Assists in clean-up of the kitchen area and dining   room as needed    


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Participates in required training and development   activities   

Fully cooperates with the organization's   compliance and continuous quality improvement (CQI) program   

Creates a safe work environment and uses sound judgement in interactions with clients and staff to maintain safety    

Reports to work on time daily and use time clock   appropriately   

Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Required: Minimum of 1 year experience working in a kitchen or dining room environment. 

Preferred: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year experience working in a kitchen or dining room environment with food preparation skills. Experience working with vulnerable populations

Required License/Certification: Valid Driver's License. Food Handler certification

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is in commercial dining room setting. This dining room may or may not include heating and air conditioning controls. This dining room may or may not have a window. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. This position may be active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing.
