FOOD HANDLER / KITCHEN ASSISTANT
Location: Broward County, Florida - Coral Springs & Fort Lauderdale
Employment Type: Temporary / Contract Assignment
Schedule: Daytime hours with flexibility for weekends and holidays as needed

POSITION SUMMARY
A & Associates is seeking dependable, professional, and service-oriented Food Handler/Kitchen Assistants for immediate temporary assignments supporting institutional food-service operations in Broward County, Florida.
The Food Handler/Kitchen Assistant will assist with food preparation, meal service, kitchen sanitation, stocking, and other daily food-service activities. This position works under the direction and supervision of on-site kitchen leadership and requires individuals who can maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, professionalism, and reliability.
Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a structured institutional environment and interacting professionally with staff, clients, and members of the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the preparation of foods, vegetables, meats, beverages, and other meal components according to established recipes and procedures.
  • Assist with portion control and preparation of food carts, steam trays, and other meal-service equipment.
  • Serve meals to clients and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with receiving and checking food and supply orders for quantity, quality, and condition.
  • Clean and sanitize stoves, cooking equipment, pots, pans, dishes, refrigerators, mixers, tables, utensils, and food-preparation areas.
  • Maintain kitchen and food-service areas in accordance with applicable sanitation and food-safety standards.
  • Restock food, supplies, utensils, and other food and non-food items as required.
  • Assist with organizing storage and food-service areas.
  • Follow established food-safety, infection-control, sanitation, glove-use, hygiene, and equipment-safety procedures.
  • Complete basic reports, logs, forms, or other documentation as required.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Report to scheduled shifts on time, properly uniformed, and ready to work.
  • Perform other related food-service and kitchen duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in food preparation, food handling, food storage, kitchen sanitation, or closely related work.
  • Experience in a large-scale, institutional, healthcare, residential, school, correctional, hospitality, or commercial food-service environment is preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen sanitation and safe food-handling practices.
  • Ability to follow recipes, written instructions, safety procedures, and established operating protocols.
  • Dependable transportation and reliable attendance are essential.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS & PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Candidates selected for assignment must meet all client-mandated onboarding and compliance requirements, which include:
  • Current Florida Food Handler Certification or equivalent.
  • Current CPR/AED Certification.
  • Valid State of Florida driver's license that is Real ID compliant.
  • Successful completion of a minimum 5-panel drug screening and alcohol test.
  • Successful completion of required criminal background screening, including FDLE requirements.
  • Ability to provide required documentation concerning freedom from serious contagious diseases, including tuberculosis, when requested.
  • Completion of required client orientation, privacy, confidentiality, HIPAA, and related training before beginning the assignment.

All required credentials must remain current and valid throughout the assignment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an active food-service position requiring regular physical activity. Candidates must be able to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift.
  • Bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, and perform repetitive kitchen-related movements.
  • Regularly exert approximately 20-50 pounds of force.
  • Occasionally exert up to 50-100 pounds of force when required by assigned duties.
  • Regularly lift up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Safely work around commercial kitchen equipment, hot surfaces, food-preparation areas, and cleaning materials.
SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY
Candidates must have scheduling flexibility and be available to work assignments that may include:
  • Morning and daytime shifts.
  • Shifts of up to eight hours.
  • Shorter shifts based on operational needs.
  • Weekends as needed.
  • Holidays as needed.
  • Additional or emergency hours when required.

Regular operations are generally scheduled between 6:00 AM and 5:30 PM, although actual schedules will be determined by assignment needs.

Positions are available at client facilities in:
Coral Springs, Florida
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Candidates may be considered for placement based on location, availability, qualifications, and operational needs.

Employees assigned to this program are expected to maintain strict standards of professionalism, confidentiality, attendance, food safety, personal hygiene, and workplace conduct.
Assigned personnel must comply with all A & Associates policies as well as applicable client policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, safety protocols, and facility rules.
Employees must report to work in the required clean uniform and wear appropriate head covering or hair restraint and kitchen safety footwear as required by the assignment.
