How much do kinetic engine systems jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for kinetic engine systems in the United States is $22.08, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.03 and $24.52 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Kinetic Engine Systems?

Kinetic Engine Systems refer to mechanical systems or technologies designed to convert kinetic energy into useful work or power, often for propulsion or energy generation. These systems can include engines that harness motion, such as kinetic energy recovery systems (KERS) used in vehicles to capture and reuse energy lost during braking. The term may also apply to innovative energy solutions in fields like automotive engineering, renewable energy, or industrial machinery. The core principle is utilizing or storing movement-based energy to improve efficiency and reduce waste. Companies and researchers are continually developing kinetic engine systems to enhance sustainability and performance in various industries.

What is the difference between Kinetic Engine Systems vs Mechanical Engine Technicians?

AspectKinetic Engine SystemsMechanical Engine Technicians
CertificationsSpecialized training in kinetic and dynamic systemsASE certifications, mechanical repair licenses
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, manufacturing facilities, testing sitesGarages, repair shops, maintenance facilities
Industry UsageEngineering, automotive, aerospace sectorsAutomotive repair, manufacturing, maintenance

While Kinetic Engine Systems focus on designing and testing dynamic energy systems, Mechanical Engine Technicians primarily repair and maintain traditional engines. Both roles require technical skills, but Kinetic Engine Systems specialists often work in research and development, whereas Mechanical Engine Technicians are hands-on repair professionals.

What are some common challenges faced when working on kinetic engine systems projects, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working with kinetic engine systems often encounter challenges related to integrating new technologies with existing mechanical frameworks and ensuring optimal energy efficiency. Troubleshooting issues such as mechanical wear, vibration, and thermal management requires strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with advanced diagnostic tools. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software developers, is essential to successfully address these challenges. Staying updated with the latest industry standards and continuous learning also play a key role in overcoming technical obstacles and advancing in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Kinetic Engine Systems Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Kinetic Engine Systems Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering, physics, and system design, usually evidenced by a relevant degree and experience in engine technology. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink, and industry standards or certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer) is typically required. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and collaboration are vital soft skills for innovating and troubleshooting in complex engineering environments. These competencies are essential to ensure the design, optimization, and safe operation of advanced kinetic engine systems.

Job description

Purpose and Impact:
This position is contingent upon award of contract, business needs and funding availability. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Targeting Analyst to support Air Combat Command (ACC) and Joint targeting operations across the full spectrum of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The selected candidate will provide advanced all-source targeting analysis, lead target development efforts, and contribute to the integration of kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in support of operational planning and execution. This role ensures the delivery of accurate, actionable intelligence that directly supports combat planning, execution, and strategic decision-making.
This role requires deep expertise in Joint and Air Force targeting doctrine, operational concepts, and processes, including Target Systems Analysis (TSA), Intermediate and Advanced Target Development (ITD/ATD), and combat assessment. The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to integrate multiple intelligence sources into kinetic and non-kinetic targeting analysis and target materials along with experience leveraging Intelligence Community (IC) standards, ontologies, and analytic tradecraft to deliver high-quality targeting products.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Conduct targeting analysis to support intelligence and operational missions
  • Develop, maintain, and assess target systems, networks, and entities
  • Apply doctrinal targeting processes (e.g., F2T2EA or equivalent) to mission requirements
  • Integrate multi-intelligence discipline data to support target development and validation
  • Produce targeting products, assessments, and briefings for operational stakeholders
  • Support mission planning, execution, and battle damage assessment activities
  • Collaborate with analysts, planners, collection managers, and operational teams
  • Ensure targeting products comply with applicable DoD, IC, and command-level policies
  • Maintain awareness of adversary capabilities, vulnerabilities, and operational patterns

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
The position supports sensitive operations and demands strict adherence to IC analytic standards, information security requirements, and professional ethics.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
  • Advanced knowledge of Joint and Air Force targeting doctrine, targeting principles, methodologies, and tradecraft
  • Demonstrated proficiency with joint targeting tools and systems, including Digital Image Exploitation Engine (DIEE), Digital Precision Strike Suite Collateral Damage Estimation (DCiDE), Joint Targeting Toolbox (JTT)
  • Mastery of qualitative and quantitative analytic methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate intelligence from multiple sources and disciplines
  • Experience producing targeting packages and operational decision-support products
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communications, including briefings to senior intelligence or operations staff
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, classified environment

Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to comply with all DoD, Air Force, and IC security and conduct standards
  • Ability to complete and maintain required training throughout contract performance
