We're looking for an instructor who wants to build something, not just teach a class.

IMA is growing our karate program, and we want an instructor who can take it to the next level — not just running solid classes, but building a real competitive team: forms, katas, and the discipline that comes with training for competition. We're also a multi-discipline gym (BJJ, Muay Thai, MMA, Wrestling, Kali), so we're looking for someone who's excited to learn alongside our other coaches, not just teach in a silo.
What You'll Actually Be Doing

  • Teaching kids and adults to perform karate at a high level — sharp technique, real focus, real discipline
  • Building and coaching a competitive team centered on forms and kata — our main emphasis, though practical self-defense and combat fundamentals are part of a well-rounded program too
  • Teaching in a way that's grounded and real-life practical, while staying approachable for students who are new to martial arts or nervous about contact-based training
  • Developing students' focus, determination, and coordination alongside their technical skill
  • Running engaging classes for all levels, from first-day beginners to advanced students
  • Giving individualized coaching so students actually hit their goals
  • Helping prepare competitors for tournaments — training plans, strategy, mindset
  • Building relationships with students and their families that keep them coming back
  • Promoting the program (social media, gym tours, community events) so it keeps growing
  • Running day-to-day gym software for check-ins, enrollments, and retail
What We're Looking For

  • Black belt in Karate preferred; coaching/teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with forms/kata competition a big plus — if you've competed or coached at that level, we want to talk to you
  • Someone who can lead, communicate, and adapt their teaching to different ages and skill levels, including students who are new or hesitant
  • Open-minded and cross-training curious. IMA is a multi-discipline gym — we also teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, Wrestling, and Kali. We're not looking for someone who sees karate as the only "real" martial art. We want an instructor who's genuinely interested in learning from our other coaches, picking up elements of other styles, and bringing that broader perspective back into how they teach and compete.
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus, not required
