Summary of Position:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LvN) is responsible for providing competent, quality, skilled nursing services in accordance with the childโ€™s physician Plan of Care and ongoing physician orders. All care is delivered in compliance with the state specific Licensed Vocational Nurse Practice Act and HealthCare for Kids company Policies and Procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse communicates collaboratively and effectively with other healthcare professionals and the child and childโ€™s family.

Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

  • Valid LVN licensed under the Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 301, with no disciplinary action.
  • Valid certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Basic First Aid; and
  • One of the following:
    • one year of pediatric specialty experience with emphasis on medically and technologically dependent minors obtained within the last consecutive five years; or
    • sufficient skills to meet competency and training requirements.
  • Must be certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/BLS with AED and First Aid

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, lift or assist in lifting an individual in an emergency.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the care needs of the individual.
  • Must be able to see with visual and listen with hearing acuity.
  • Must have strength and manual dexterity, including grasping and manipulating small objects, to operate medical equipment appropriately.
  • Must be able to respond in an emergency.
