What are the typical working hours and environment for kids involved in acting?

Kids acting jobs often require a flexible schedule that may include after-school, weekend, or occasionally daytime commitments, depending on rehearsals, auditions, and shoots. Productions are usually supervised closely by parents or guardians, and child labor laws ensure limits on working hours and required breaks to support children’s well-being and schooling. Work environments can range from theater stages and rehearsal studios to film sets and commercial shoots, each with a supportive team of adults such as coaches, directors, and chaperones. Being able to adapt to new settings and work collaboratively is a key part of daily life in kids acting roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in kids acting?

To thrive as a Kids Acting professional, you need strong performance skills, including stage presence, memorization, and the ability to take direction, often paired with experience from acting classes or workshops. Familiarity with audition processes, scripts, and sometimes acting unions like SAG-AFTRA is helpful. Adaptability, enthusiasm, and strong teamwork and communication skills help a young actor stand out and interact well with directors and peers. These competencies ensure a child actor can handle the demands of productions while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.

Job description

WE ARE GROWING AGAIN!

So, maybe you don’t see yourself as a “9-5” type (unless we’re talking about the musical).  If we’re being honest, neither do we!  We are My Gym Children’s Fitness Center – the ultimate children’s fitness and developmental activity center – and we get to work and play all day… in a T-shirt and socks!!
Do you love kids, being generally silly, and acting for very receptive and adorable audiences?  Then My Gym might be the right place for you!
Are you…
  • The life of the party?
  • Frequently found at the kids table (which is the best place to be anyway)?
  • A dancer, actor, singer, or athlete?
  • Outgoing, upbeat, and positive?
  • Someone who takes direction well?
  • Interested in a flexible weekday schedule that will allow your job to work into your life?
  • Available to work weekends? (We throw wonderful, memorable birthday parties year-round.)
  • Willing to really grow with us (and the kids!) and can commit to at least a year of employment?
If you feel we probably wrote this about you as a funny character assessment, you may be the right person for us and My Gym may be just the right job for you!  As a teacher, you’ll be working with children ranging from 6 weeks to 13 years of age, teaching programs that incorporate songs, dances, puppet shows, beginning gymnastics skills, sports, games, and a variety of other unique and exciting activities in a positive, noncompetitive, fun environment. LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY.  Full Time available.
