The Senior Software Engineer will focus on developing and maintaining custom native plugins for the SIS2Go mobile application, ensuring seamless integration with device hardware and platform APIs.
Responsibilities:
• Designing, developing, and maintaining custom native plugins (Java/Kotlin for Android, Swift/Objective-C for iOS) that expose device hardware and platform APIs to the application layer.
• Acquiring client requirements; resolving workflow problems through automation optimization and integration with device hardware and field equipment (WiFi connectivity, mDNS, dual-connectivity, barcode scanning, biometrics).
• Writing source code for new native plugins, and/or enhancing and debugging existing plugins for capabilities including file system operations, network management, and secure storage.
• Implementing platform-specific security features including SSL pinning, encrypted databases, and secure keychain/keystore access.
• Utilizing automated testing tools to perform testing and maintenance of native plugin interfaces and platform integrations.
• Develops native mobile code in Java/Kotlin (Android) and/or Swift/Objective-C (iOS) to implement platform-specific functionality.
• Writes JavaScript/TypeScript interface layers to expose native capabilities to the application.
• Manages complex interactions between web and native layers across multiple target platforms.
• Designs and implements native bridge layers between JavaScript and platform-specific APIs on Android and iOS.
• Integrates with external systems including OAuth identity providers and field equipment over local network protocols.
• Develops and maintains plugins that interface with hardware subsystems (WiFi, Bluetooth, cameras, biometrics).
• Configures and maintains platform-specific build configurations (Gradle for Android, Xcode for iOS).
• Applies knowledge of mobile platform security, including SSL pinning, encrypted databases, and secure keychain storage.
• Troubleshoots platform-specific performance issues using native debugging tools and profilers.
• Designs and implements test suites for native plugin layers and platform-specific integrations.
• Validates plugin behavior across multiple OS versions and device configurations.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Hands-on native mobile development experience: Java/Kotlin (Android) and/or Swift/Objective-C (iOS).
• Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript for writing plugin interface layers and bridging native code to the application.
• Experience writing native plugins or SDKs that expose platform APIs to higher-level application frameworks (Capacitor, Cordova, React Native, or similar).
• Experience with device-level APIs: networking (WiFi, mDNS), biometrics (Touch ID/Face ID), file systems, and camera/barcode scanning.
• Experience with AI-powered productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI coding assistants) to accelerate development workflows, code generation, and debugging.
• Working knowledge of mobile platform security best practices (certificate pinning, secure enclaves, keychain/keystore).
• Enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills, with a hands-on approach to problem solving and adopting emerging technologies.
