Job description

Overview

Chenega & NASA are seeking an experienced Kennel Master/K-9 Supervisor to lead K-9 security operations at Kennedy Space Center in Titusville, FL. This armed supervisory role oversees K-9 teams supporting explosive and narcotics detection, security patrols, facility sweeps, and law enforcement operations while ensuring compliance, readiness, and the welfare of assigned canines.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, direct, and support K-9 security personnel, ensuring officers understand facility requirements, post orders, operational procedures, and special instructions.
  • Manage K-9 operations, including explosive and narcotics detection, facility and vehicle sweeps, security patrols, searches for persons or evidence, and support of law enforcement activities.
  • Oversee staffing and scheduling to ensure full shift coverage, including accommodations for vacations, illnesses, emergencies, and call-offs.
  • Train, evaluate, certify, and maintain K-9 handlers, canines, and teams in accordance with nationally recognized standards.
  • Ensure the proper use, accountability, and maintenance of all K-9 equipment, facilities, and operational resources.
  • Maintain the health, welfare, readiness, and operational effectiveness of assigned canines, and remain available for emergency response operations during hurricanes, disasters, or declared emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED; minimum age of 21 years.
  • Graduate of a federal, state, local, or military law enforcement/physical security training academy, with required permits, licenses, certifications, and site-specific clearances.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in security or law enforcement environments, including decision-making, personnel management, and policy enforcement.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Must meet all physical, psychological, firearms qualification, physical agility, drug-free workplace, and NASA certification requirements for the position.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory kennel experience within a civilian law enforcement agency, military police organization, or security force.
  • 10 years of law enforcement supervisory experience preferred.
  • 15 years of K-9 handler experience preferred.
  • 10 years of experience as a nationally recognized certifier in narcotics detection, explosive detection, and criminal apprehension.
  • Honorably discharged from military service (if applicable).
