Job description

KBC is seeking a Donor Engagement Specialist to build its market position to elevate KBC’s community profile by locating and establishing strong relationships with specific donor demographics. This position will particularly focus on message development, programming, incentives and relationships with high schools and colleges and other accounts with similar audiences. Additionally, the role manages all accounts within a limited territory. Supports marketing, recruitment, and media relations activities as assigned. Reports to the Assistant Vice President, Donor Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops an overarching plan to recruit and retain increased percentage of blood donors, particularly in the age 16-24 demographic or other groups as identified as areas of need.
  • Analyzes trends for targeted demographics to implement and adjust recruitment strategies.
  • Works as a liaison to school district personnel and their assigned Donor Recruitment Specialist; pursues support of blood drives and educational curriculum opportunities to further engagement in high schools within the service area.
  • Coordinates the KBC Education Grant Program, managing logistics and promoting participation.
  • Educates the public about KBC and blood transfusion for Kentucky patients, as well as donor eligibility criteria.
  • Assists with the distribution of key messages to target audiences through a variety of communications activities.
  • This position will focus on specific donor groups, acting as a recruitment contact for these accounts.
  • Ensures success of drives by:
    • Scheduling drives and donors in a manner that minimizes disruptions such as changes, postponements, and cancellations.
    • Completing site reviews as needed and selecting appropriate locations that facilitate an effective and efficient donation process, and that is in compliance with cGMP.
    • Providing sponsors with promotional materials, recruitment suggestions, etc.
    • Communicating and collaborating effectively with other departments and stakeholders in both verbal and written forms.
    • Promptly addressing concerns and inquiries from chairpersons.
    • Following up with acknowledgment and appreciation for group participation.
    • Maintaining current and accurate group files/records.
  • Analyzes trends for assigned groups and develops/implements recruitment strategies.
  • Assists with coordination of special events designed to increase awareness and motivation to donate blood.
  • Maintains current information regarding business/community meetings, including group contacts and updating Outlook.
  • Provides exceptional internal and external customer service, participates in special projects and fulfills other duties assigned.

This position requires the ability to:

  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally fulfill basic clerical duties (typing/writing).
  • Occasionally lift/carry up to 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Occasionally bend or reach to perform various job tasks.
  • Analyze complex situations and make sound decisions.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent with appropriate combination of education and experience required.
  • Experience in related area preferred, such as sales and marketing, fundraising, or other recruitment and promotional activities in a non-profit setting.
  • Professional presence with strong communication and relationship-building skills is essential; must have the ability to effectively deliver presentations and to engage with large groups.
  • MS Office proficiency, and the ability to effectively navigate web applications and custom systems; applicable familiarity with social media platforms and other forms of digital marketing and messaging.
  • Flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends; regular travel by car within assigned region and occasional overnight stays.
  • Must have reliable transportation; valid Kentucky driver’s license and a safe driving record.
