Summary

Spire is seeking a Gas Worker to work in the Kansas City, MO.  This position will be responsible for assisting in the repair, installation, and maintenance of natural gas underground piping.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Functions as part of a crew in the Leak and Maintenance Department and on a field- based work crew in the Construction department performing general laboring duties; breaking pavement, excavating, backfilling, compacting, pipe fitting, operating all air and hydraulic tools.
  • Assists field- based work crews with daily duties.
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent

Required knowledge, skill and abilities
  • Ability to obtain a CDL permit before the end of probation and the ability to drive safely. (Probationary period is 90 working days)
  • Ability to obtain certification under the Operator's Qualification Requirements.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact appropriately with others.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense, collect data and conduct analysis as required to solve certain problems.
  • Ability to provide daily direct service to external customers.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to use pipefitting hand tools.
  • Ability to work hours and days, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Ability to perform duties onsite, except those duties which are customarily or by their nature performed off site.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail.
Physical demands, environment and schedule
  • Regularly performs work outside on customer's property in all weather conditions.
  •  Lifting up to 50 pounds, 51 to 100 pounds rarely
  • Frequent walking, standing and driving
  • Push/Pulling up to 100 pounds of force
  • Work hours based on business needs
  • Overtime and/or travel based on business needs
  • Works in hazardous traffic conditions
