Western Extrusions' 750,000 square foot facility contains one of the most technologically advanced extrusion lines in North America. Our 5 extrusion presses are capable of extruding lengths up to 60 feet and between 7 and 14 inches in diameter, and in certain applications up to 19 inches wide. Our on-site certified metallurgists conduct microstructure analysis for quality assurance. We also offer a full range of in house custom fabrication and finishing services enabling us to meet our customers' wide range of exact specifications.

Job Description

Position Summary:   Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the primary responsibility of this position is to supervise the daily work and performance of every employee on assigned shift to achieve team and company objectives. The successful candidate will have broad-based industrial maintenance experience, and a core skill set in extrusion machinery and maintenance equipment. That experience will encompass Electrical/PLC, Robotics, Mechanical, Hydraulics/Pneumatics, Welding, Machining, Conveyor systems, etc. Must be willing to tackle any maintenance challenges, and be willing to assist and learn from others in their areas of expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

         Responsible for promoting, supporting and enforcing the elements of ISO 9001 as they apply to the maintenance department.

         Creates work schedules for all employees on assigned shift 

         Conduct daily shift start-up meetings (Tool Box Meetings) discussing safety issues and the expected workload.

         Maintain strict adherence to company and safety policies/procedures.  

         Supervises safety and environmental programs to meet regulatory and Kaiser Requirements.

         This position will require a very safety oriented person to perform maintenance duties in a team environment and the ability to work alone with little or no supervision.

         Participates in safety meetings and dialogs, performs Job Hazard Analysis, and performs Incident Investigations as needed to maintain the safest work environment possible

         Takes ownership of safety processes; performs maintenance safety program audits (Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space, Fall Protection, PPE, mobile equipment, etc.).

         Inform Manager of all employee or production issues as they arise. 

         Directly supervises employees in the extrusions maintenance department which includes mechanics, welders, electricians on assigned shift

         Ensure machinery in area is safe and working optimally; maintain constant alert for hazardous conditions and practices.

         Assist manager in various production related duties.

         Responsible for equipment maintenance and reliability throughout the plant and will maintain and repair heavy industrial machinery which includes plant equipment, piping systems, fluid power systems, cutting, burning and all types of welding

         Ability to make decisions on equipment repairs and be self-motivated.

         This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, modifying, rebuilding and maintaining plant equipment.

         Must have working knowledge of all or some of the following: electrical/electronic circuits, PLC's, wire installation/termination, combustion, power distribution, electronics process control computers conduit threading, schematics, bending and installation, AC and DC drives and welding.

         This person will be required to operate mobile equipment including forklift, man lift, scissor lift, and overhead cranes.

         Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and make repairs or improvements as needed.

         Troubleshooting issues on aluminum extrusion presses and auxiliary equipment and machinery including PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, etc.

         Ability to read, follow and understand electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings, blueprints, schematics, code requirements, service manuals and manufacturers' specifications

         Monitors condition of equipment and makes maximum use of planned outages

         Reduces MTTO (occurrence restoration), increases MTBO (between occurrences)

         Manages the Production housekeeping and 5s program.

         Works with Purchasing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Physical Distribution in maintaining services for the plant.

         Assists in maintaining an accurate electronic backlog of all Work Requests and Work Orders, in cooperation with maintenance planners.

         Determines work priorities for weekly and daily maintenance schedules and assists in the coordination of maintenance activities affecting production or quality.

         Must be "hands on" and ensure that all staff receives proper levels of training to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities of team

         Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to ensure minimum interruption to process.

         Must have good communication skills both verbal and written.

         Willingness to work off shift, weekends, and holidays

         Communicate, motivate, supervise, counsel and discipline all direct reports when necessary.  

         Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees as well as apprising performance and rewarding/disciplining and addressing complaints

         Conduct annual employee performance reviews; work closely with Manager to implement wage increases

         Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Abilities:

         Ability to perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed above

         Knowledge of ISO 9001 elements and understanding of their applicability to the department

         Proficient use of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)

         Experience in Lean Manufacturing concepts  and OSHA requirements (preferred )

         Previous production and or supervisor experience 

         Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment maintenance (hydraulics, pneumatic, motors, etc.)

         A minimum of three (4) years journey-level experience as a maintenance technician maintaining and repairing heavy industrial machinery
