K to 8 Art Teacher Job Description

Job Overview:

Kuumba Academy Charter School (KACS) is seeking a passionate and creative K-8 Art Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to using the visual arts to inspire and empower students across all grade levels. This educator will demonstrate a strong ability to design engaging, culturally responsive lessons that integrate the arts into a holistic educational experience. Responsibilities of Kuumba Academy Teachers Include but Are Not Limited to:

Academic Achievement and Character Development

  • Create a vibrant, inclusive, and achievement-oriented art classroom for students in grades K-8
  • Develop and implement standards-aligned art lessons that build students' technical skills, creativity, and appreciation for diverse artistic traditions
  • Integrate the arts with core academic subjects through interdisciplinary, project-based learning
  • Use visual arts to promote student voice, identity development, and cultural expression
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to support arts-integrated instructional units
  • Showcase student work throughout the building and lead school-wide exhibitions and performances
  • Utilize student data and observations to tailor instruction to individual and group needs
  • Provide differentiated instruction to ensure all students are challenged and supported in their artistic growth
  • Foster a love for the arts while building a safe and respectful studio culture
  • Art teacher will be evaluated using DTGSS

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate enthusiastically in all professional development, team planning, and data analysis meetings
  • Function as a school-wide partner in helping to raise student achievement and character for all students in the school reinforcing school-wide expectations and volunteering to take on additional activities as needed to improve school culture
