What is a junior web programmer?

Junior Web Programmers are entry-level professionals who assist in the development and maintenance of websites and web applications. They typically work under the supervision of more experienced developers, writing code, fixing bugs, and learning best practices in web development. Their responsibilities often include using languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic backend technologies. Junior Web Programmers are expected to have foundational coding skills and a willingness to learn and grow in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior web programmer, and why are they important?

Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of databases, and exposure to frameworks such as React or Angular are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork skills set standout candidates apart. These competencies are crucial for building functional, maintainable websites and collaborating efficiently on development projects.

What are some common challenges that junior web programmers face when starting out, and how can they overcome them?

Junior Web Programmers often encounter challenges such as understanding complex codebases, adapting to team coding standards, and efficiently debugging issues. It's common to feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar frameworks or large-scale projects. To overcome these hurdles, new programmers should seek mentorship from senior team members, participate in code reviews, and consistently practice reading and writing code. Job description

Requisition ID: 260056
Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

We are looking for a Senior Web Developer to design, build, and scale high quality web applications that support critical business and customer experiences. This role is hands on and technical, with strong expectations around system design, code quality, performance, security, and mentoring less experienced developers.

You will partner closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and platform teams to deliver resilient, accessible, and performant web solutions aligned with enterprise standards.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain modern, responsive web applications using contemporary frontend frameworks and tooling.
  • Translate business and product requirements into wellarchitected technical solutions that scale securely and reliably.
  • Lead frontend technical design, including component architecture, state management, and API integration patterns.
  • Ensure applications meet performance, security, accessibility (WCAG), and browser compatibility standards.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and welldocumented code; conduct and participate in code reviews.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure intuitive, polished, and usercentric experiences.
  • Work closely with backend, DevOps, and cloud platform teams to support endtoend delivery.
  • Identify and remediate technical debt; continuously improve development standards and practices.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to intermediate and junior developers.
  • Support production releases and contribute to incident resolution and rootcause analysis when required.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in web application development.
  • Strong expertise with JavaScript/TypeScript, PHP, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Deep handson experience with modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue (React preferred).
  • Proven experience building componentbased architectures and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
  • Solid understanding of web performance optimization, security best practices (OWASP), and accessibility standards.
  • Experience with modern build tools and ecosystems (e.g., Webpack, Vite, npm/yarn, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Strong debugging, problemsolving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.

NicetoHave

  • Experience working in large, enterprise or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Exposure to backend technologies (Node.js, Java, .NET) and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Playwright).
  • Knowledge of design systems and enterprise UX standards.
  • Prior experience leading or owning frontend technical strategy on major initiatives.
