Job Summary

DPR Construction is seeking a Telecom Field Engineer with entry-level experience in telecommunications or commercial construction to join our data center division. This junior position is designed to support the Superintendent in overseeing telecommunications projects, focusing on data center infrastructure, including structured cabling, fiber optics, outside plant (OSP) deployments, and low-voltage systems. The Telecom Field Engineer will work closely with the Superintendent, project teams, and subcontractors to ensure field operations align with DPR's safety, quality, and performance standards, providing a foundation for growth within the organization.

Responsibilities

Support the Superintendent in overseeing field work for telecommunications projects, ensuring proper installation of infrastructure.

Assist in coordinating working and shop drawings for telecommunications systems, including structured cabling and OSP.

Assist in preparing and updating project schedules, including three-week look-ahead schedules, weekly work plans, and production planning.

Organize and document subcontractor meetings, producing meeting minutes.

Support the RFI and submittal process for telecommunications installations.

Assist in project close-out activities, including completing items from corrective action lists and punch lists.

Coordinate work-in-place quantities and DPR labor under the Superintendent's direction.

Direct company foreman and laborers as instructed by the Superintendent.

Coordinate with project management staff to expedite materials and align with assigned duties.

Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely material delivery, proper installation, and adherence to schedule and safety requirements.

Interact with architects, consultants, and building officials to clarify drawings, manage changes, and coordinate inspections as needed.

Participate in Superintendent Peer Group Meetings to learn and contribute to team objectives.

Assist in verifying subcontractor installations (e.g., OTDR/OLTS fiber optic testing) meet DPR specifications and local codes under the quality team's guidance.

Support the Superintendent in ensuring subcontractors comply with local regulations and DPR's safety best practices.

Qualifications

We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented team player eager to learn and support field operations in a fast-paced data center environment. The successful candidate will possess:

Experience: Entry-level experience (0-2 years) in telecommunications, construction, or a related field, preferably in data center or mission-critical environments.

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of telecommunications project scopes, including structured cabling, fiber optics, and OSP deployments.
  • Basic ability to read blueprints and shop drawings for telecommunications systems.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), project management software (e.g., CMiC, Procore), and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6).

Safety and Technical Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of excavation safety, fall protection.
  • Willingness to learn Total Station Layout and control for a minimum 4-month period in the field.
  • Basic competency in BIM modeling to obtain specific building details.

Communication: Developing presentation and communication skills to interact with contractors, engineers, and project teams.

Problem-Solving: Ability to apply initiative and basic problem-solving skills to support field operations and resolve minor issues under supervision.

Organization: Ability to manage tasks, adapt to project needs, and handle deadlines, workloads, and interruptions.

Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with diverse team members in a professional and tactful manner.

Work Ethic: Strong work ethic, a "can-do" attitude, and a passion for construction, with a desire to grow within DPR.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with quality assurance/control processes.
  • Basic exposure to fiber optic testing (OTDR/OLTS) or IT/IP network deployments.

Driving and Certifications: Must meet DPR's minimum driving standards and secure a company-sponsored American Express card.

The Telecom Field Engineer will report to and directly support the Superintendent, with each Superintendent having a dedicated Field Engineer, and work closely with project

teams and subcontractors to deliver high-quality telecommunications infrastructure for data center projects.

This role is 100% On-Site
Candidate can be based in any location that DPR Construction has an office. Weekly travel to project location inMonroe, LA. is required. Competitive per diem and travel incentives offered.
