Junior Software Engineer information

What is a junior software engineer?

A junior software engineer works on a team with more senior engineers to help design and develop applications, write code, and otherwise maintain or update a business's database. As a junior software engineer, your duties and responsibilities may vary based on what company you work for. Overall, your job is to learn from senior engineers and developers on how to be a software engineer and in what ways you can develop and utilize the technologies of the business to do so. Many junior software engineers have a little bit of knowledge about a lot of technologies but also stay up-to-date on the most current technologies.

How does a junior software engineer typically collaborate with other team members on projects?

Junior Software Engineers usually work closely with senior developers, QA testers, and product managers as part of a cross-functional team. Collaboration often involves participating in daily stand-up meetings, code reviews, and pair programming sessions. Juniors are encouraged to ask questions and seek feedback, which helps them learn best practices and improve their coding skills. Effective communication and a willingness to learn from more experienced colleagues are key to thriving in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Software Engineer, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, algorithms, and commonly used languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of databases, and experience with development environments and frameworks are usually expected. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and effective teamwork and communication abilities help set you apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing effectively to projects, adapting to evolving technologies, and collaborating within development teams.

Job description

Staff Full-Stack Engineer – .NET, React & AI

Are you a highly experienced full-stack engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and delivering production-ready solutions at speed? We are seeking a Staff Full-Stack Engineer – .NET, React & AI to play a key role in building an AI-driven engineering platform where innovation, ownership, and technical excellence are at the heart of everything.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and delivering product features end-to-end while helping shape a highly scalable, AI-centric platform that powers multiple brands from a shared technology foundation.

About the Role

As a Staff Full-Stack Engineer – .NET, React & AI, you will take ownership of product delivery from concept through to production. You'll work across the full technology stack, leveraging AI coding agents and modern engineering practices to accelerate delivery without compromising quality. This role combines hands-on software development, technical leadership, systems architecture, and platform engineering in a fast-paced environment where autonomy and accountability are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of product features, from ambiguous requirements and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support.
  • Design, build, and operate highly available, high-performance distributed systems capable of supporting demanding workloads at scale.
  • Build and maintain third-party and B2B integrations, delivering customer- and brand-specific functionality on top of a shared, scalable platform.
  • Develop and operate containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring workloads are reliable, secure, observable, and production-ready.
  • Leverage AI coding agents and automated verification tools to accelerate development while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, testing, and reliability.
  • Establish reusable technical patterns, make informed architectural decisions, and lead by example while helping remove technical roadblocks across multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems, tracing requests from the client and edge layers through networking infrastructure and application services to downstream dependencies.
  • Monitor and support production environments, investigate incidents, identify root causes, and continuously improve platform reliability, observability, and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate across engineering, product, and other technical teams to translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and apply unfamiliar tools, frameworks, and platforms when required.
Skills & ExperienceTechnical Expertise
  • Extensive commercial experience delivering production-grade, full-stack applications and services.
  • Strong expertise in .NET / C#, RESTful API development, and Next.js / React, including server-side rendering and real-time streaming using Server-Sent Events (SSE).
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating highly available, high-throughput distributed systems at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis, with the ability to evaluate workload requirements and select the appropriate data store.
  • Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms, including producer/consumer patterns, schema design, and real-time data processing.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering reliable third-party and B2B API integrations.
  • Strong understanding of API security and integration patterns, including OAuth, HMAC request signing, idempotency, replay protection, and audit logging.
  • Practical experience with Docker, including creating Dockerfiles, building and managing container images, and working with container registries.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating Kubernetes workloads, including deployments, services, configuration and secrets management, health probes, and resource management.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, TLS, HTTP, load balancing, and reverse proxies, with the ability to troubleshoot requests across distributed systems from edge to origin.
  • Experience working with a public cloud platform, with Azure preferred, including cloud compute, identity and access management, and CI/CD infrastructure.
  • Experience with CDN and edge platforms, with Cloudflare preferred, including diagnosing issues occurring at the edge versus the application origin.
  • Practical experience with production observability and incident analysis using tools such as Grafana, Loki, Sentry, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment processes, and production release workflows.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools and coding agents to improve engineering productivity and development workflows.
Delivery & Leadership
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality software within demanding timelines while making appropriate trade-offs between speed, quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Demonstrated ownership of projects and features from uncertain or ambiguous requirements through successful production delivery and ongoing support.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and contributing effectively across concurrent projects and workstreams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions rather than short-term fixes.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to make informed technical decisions, navigate uncertainty, and independently drive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and systems quickly and apply that knowledge effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to engineering quality, operational excellence, security, and reliability.
  • Ability to establish technical patterns, influence engineering practices, and mentor others through technical leadership and example.
What's on Offer
  • Exposure to cutting-edge AI and automation technologies that are reshaping modern engineering and business operations.
  • The opportunity to work on genuinely challenging projects using modern cloud, distributed systems, AI, and software engineering technologies.
  • A collaborative, high-performing environment where innovation, accountability, ownership, and technical excellence are recognised and rewarded.
  • Clear opportunities for professional growth and career progression as the organisation continues to scale.
  • Competitive salary with a discretionary bonus.
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including extended healthcare, dental, and vision coverage.
  • On-site leisure facilities to help you recharge throughout the day.
  • Regular company events that celebrate success and foster team connection.On-site parking for added convenience.

If you're an engineer who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex problems, embracing emerging AI technologies, and building systems that operate at scale, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working alongside talented professionals who value innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
