We're seeking a seasoned software engineer who thrives in building cloud-native applications, enterprise integrations, and scalable APIs while remaining hands-on and serving as a mentor to other developers.

Life Insurance Solutions is committed to helping customers protect what's important to them.  The proceeds from our life policies are often used to pay off mortgages, send kids to college and enable a secure retirement.  In this role, you'll help shape the future of our Life Insurance Underwriting platform by designing and delivering solutions using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, MuleSoft, and modern API technologies. You'll play a critical role in driving integration modernization efforts, influencing technical decisions, and helping establish engineering best practices across the team.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

      • Engineer II: $115,000 - $135,000, plus annual bonus opportunity
      • Engineer III: $135,000 - $155,000, plus annual bonus opportunity

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Play a key role in modernizing Mutual of Omaha's Life Insurance platform through the development and support of enterprise APIs and integration solutions.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and support Java and Spring Boot applications within AWS cloud environments.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and reusable integration services that enable secure connectivity with third-party vendor solutions, customers, and business partners.
  • Design and implement MuleSoft integrations using Anypoint Platform, DataWeave, and API-led connectivity principles.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to translate requirements into scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Serve as a senior technical contributor by mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and promoting software engineering best practices.
  • Influence application design, API standards, integration architecture, and technical direction across the team.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering leaders to evaluate emerging technologies and advance modernization initiatives.
  • Promote operational excellence through automation, CI/CD practices, continuous improvement, and quality-focused development.
  • Lead by example in delivering secure, resilient, and high-performing software solutions

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and implementing enterprise software solutions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and microservices architectures.
  • Experience developing and supporting applications in AWS cloud environments.
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting enterprise integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
  • Strong understanding of API design, API lifecycle management, security standards, and integration patterns.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools and implementing AI-enabled solutions to enhance software development, improve team productivity, accelerate delivery, and support day-to-day technical decision-making.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and business domains.
  • Experience mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and contributing to a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and participate in architectural and design discussions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

  • Ability to work remotely with reliable high-speed internet access while residing in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
  • Experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript development.
  • Experience designing and supporting event-driven architectures and messaging solutions.
  • Experience working within a SAFe Agile environment.
  • Previous experience serving as a technical lead, senior developer, or mentor within an engineering organization.
  • Experience supporting large-scale modernization, integration, or digital transformation initiatives.

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.
