Primary Role
As a Tree Groundperson, you will support tree crews in maintaining the health, safety, and aesthetics of our clients' trees. This entry-level position is essential to keeping jobs running smoothly, ensuring crew safety, and maintaining equipment and materials. You'll be part of a skilled, collaborative team that prioritizes quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities - Ground Operations
  • Gather and feed brush, branches, and debris into wood chippers.
  • Drag, lift, and stack logs, stumps, and other tree materials safely and efficiently.
  • Scan work areas for trip, fall, and other safety hazards, keeping crew members out of harm's way.
  • Assist climbers and equipment operators with rigging, rope handling, and job setup as needed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean, safe, and working order.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Operate chainsaws, wood chippers, and other hand or power tools under supervision.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on equipment to ensure safe operation.

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Comply with local and state regulations, including passing background checks and drug tests.

Team Collaboration & Client Interaction
  • Support crew members to ensure efficient, high-quality job completion.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous demeanor with clients when on-site.

Qualifications
  • Interest in tree care, landscaping, or outdoor work.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to learn tree trimming, rigging, and equipment operation.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license with a clean driving record (no DUIs).
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • Strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and excellent client service.
  • Willingness to complete company-provided tree care training and safety certifications.
