Job description

We areย hiring forย this position out of ourย Toronto,ย Vancouverย and Calgaryย offices.ย Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected toย relocateย andย resideย in a location that is within a commutable distance.ย

About the team:ย

The Robotic Process Automation teamย operatesย as aย transversalย Center of Excellence (CoE) serving the entire bank, reporting directly to the VP of Data Engineering. Our core mandate is to drive enterprise-wide efficiency, mitigate regulatory risk, and unlock critical data from complex or legacy systems where traditional integration methods are not possible.ย

Currentlyย operatingย as a lean group, the team is on the cusp of a major transformation. We are evolving from a reactive, service-oriented model into a highly structured, strategic engineering practice. We work within an Agile framework that is tightly integrated with the bank's broader enterprise architecture and intake processes. When new initiatives require automation, dedicated Project Managers handle the requirements and backlog population, allowing our engineers to focus strictly on technical design, robust execution, and system performance.ย

About you:ย

You are a senior software engineer who happens to specialize in automation, not a developer who just builds bots. You thrive in environments that require both technical mastery and strategic vision. Where others see legacy systems or broken processes, you see a mandate for transformation. You are comfortable stepping into a team that is early in its maturity journey and taking the reins to build a robust, scalable engineering foundation.ย

Youย don'tย just execute requirements; you challenge them, seeking API-first solutions andย designing forย resilience, SLAs, and long-term maintainability. You believe that RPA and low-code platforms require the exact same SDLC rigor, CI/CD discipline, and observability as any traditional software product. You are highly autonomous, driven by the challenge of reducing technical debt, and eager to mentor others while setting the technical standard for an expanding enterprise practice.ย

About you /ย qualifications:ย

  • Moreย thanย 7ย years of experience working in softwareย engineering.ย
  • Experience working on cloud-nativeย architectureย isย a must.ย
  • Experience improving Software Development Life Cycle and mentoring team members.ย
  • Experience workingย inย the banking industryย orย fintechย an asset.ย
  • Proven experience in building complexย systemsย with a focus on scalability, performance, reliability, and resiliency.ย
  • More thanย 4ย years of experience designingย andย deliveringย Robotic Processย Automationย
  • Deep experience working with platforms such asย UiPathย or Microsoft Power Automateย
  • Experienceย promoting bots across environments andย observingย quality assurance processes.ย
  • Experienceย with embedding observability and support practices into the development cycle.ย
  • Experienceย working in Agileย development teams:ย
  • Active participation in design,ย development,ย code reviews, and delivery.ย
  • Experienceย inย creating and refining requirements, non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria, andย definition-of-done.ย
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams:ย
  • Proven ability to work with Product Owners, Quality Assurance, DevOps, and other stakeholders.ย
  • Strong communicationย and collaboration skillsย
  • Experienceย in the operation and support ofย business-criticalย production systemsย
  • Incident managementย
  • Root cause analysisย
  • Observability & Monitoringย
  • Additionalย qualifications:ย
  • Experience with modern development tools and practices, such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and git-ops processes.ย

Technical experience with:ย

  • RPAย
    • UiPathย
    • Microsoftย Powerย Automateย an assetย
      • Cloudย
        • Amazon AWSย and Microsoft Azureย
        • Microsoft Fabric an assetย
          • Softwareย developmentย
            • C# and Python are assetsย
            • Databasesย
              • Relationalย databasesย (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)ย
              • Securityย
                • OAuth2, OIDC,ย JWT bothย from a client and server perspective.ย ย

                About the day-to-day:ย

                • Architect and build resilient automations:ย
                  • Design, develop, and deploy complex RPA solutions using UiPath and Power Automate.ย
                  • Prioritize API-first integrations and robust exception handling over fragile UI scraping.ย
                  • Author comprehensive Solution Design Documents (SDDs) incorporating SLAs and operational metricsย
                • Drive technical governance and code quality:ย
                  • Design clean, maintainable, and efficient automations per the business requirements.ย
                  • Lead code reviews to ensure quality, security, and adherence to enterprise standards.ย
                  • Establish andย maintainย reusableย componentย libraries to accelerate future development.ย
                  • Provide constructive feedback and mentor intermediate/junior developers in RPA best practicesย
                • Transform our engineering practices (SDLC & DevOps):ย
                  • Design and implement proper release management and CI/CD promotion workflows for RPA artifacts.ย
                  • Integrate RPA platform telemetry with enterprise observability tools (e.g.,ย DataDog) for proactive incident management.ย
                  • Help transition the team from manual deployments to automated, Git-ops-driven processes.ย
                    • Collaborateย acrossย cross-functionalย teams:ย
                      • Work closely with Project Managers, Product Owners, and the core DevOps team to align automation architecture with broader enterprise infrastructure.ย
                      • Help refine user stories, clarify technical constraints, andย establishย clear Definitions of Done (DoD).ย
                      • Participate in Agile ceremonies, providing technical leadership during sprint planning and retrospectives.ย
                          • Learn and grow:ย
                            • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.ย

                            • Troubleshoot complex issues in production and perform deep root cause analysis on failed automations.ย
                            • Collaborate with the team to find solutions to complex problems.ย
                            • Monitor application performance and optimize code for efficiency.ย
                            • Ensure all data extraction and integration adheres strictly to OAuth2/OIDC standards and banking compliance requirements.ย
