Job description

Job Summary: The IT Core Banking Integrations Developer designs, develops, implements, and supports software integrations, APIs, data interfaces, and internal applications across the ORNL Federal Credit Union's technology environment. This role partners with business units, IT teams, and vendors to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions that connect core banking, digital banking, lending, payments, and third-party systems. The position is also responsible for ensuring all development and integration activities align with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices for security, data protection, auditability, and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 

  • Solution Analysis, Design & Architecture: Analyzes business and technical requirements with stakeholders and translates them into scalable, secure, and maintainable application and integration designs. Assists with integration architecture, reusable components, coding standards, secure development practices, and continuous improvement of the Credit Union's development and integration program.
  • Application & Integration Development: Designs, builds, tests, deploys, and supports integrations using Jack Henry SymXchange, enterprise APIs, web services, databases, file exchanges, message queues, and approved middleware or integration platforms. Develops integrations that support core banking functions including inquiries, transactions, file maintenance, account/member data exchange, and other authorized SymXchange-enabled capabilities. Creates and maintains application code, scripts, services, APIs, scheduled jobs, and utilities using approved development languages and frameworks such as .NET/C#, Java, Python, PowerShell, SQL, or comparable technologies. Works with SOAP/XML/WSDL-based services, REST/JSON APIs, secures file transfer, database connectivity, and authentication patterns used across enterprise and vendor systems.
  • Vendor, Business Partner & Stakeholder Collaboration: Partners with Jack Henry, third-party vendors, business units, and internal IT teams to define integration requirements, validate connectivity, troubleshoot issues, and support production implementations. Provides knowledge transfer, training, and technical support to IT staff, business users, and support teams as needed.
  • Security, Compliance & Controls: Develops and maintains secure handling of credentials, certificates, API keys, service accounts, encryption, secrets management, role-based access, and least-privilege permissions. Uses source control, change management, deployment standards, peer review, and release practices to ensure code and configurations are controlled and traceable.
  • Testing, Monitoring & Operational Reliability: Implements logging, monitoring, alerting, exception handling, retry logic, reconciliation controls, and operational dashboards to ensure integrations are reliable, supportable, and auditable. Performs unit, integration, regression, performance, and user acceptance testing to verify that solutions meet functional, security, compliance, and business continuity requirements. Supports data quality, reconciliation, validation, and exception reporting for integrations that exchange member, account, loan, payment, and operational data.
  • Production Support & Issue Resolution: Troubleshoots incidents and production issues by performing root-cause analysis, reviewing logs, validating data flows, coordinating with vendors, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participates in occasional after-hours maintenance, deployments, incident response, or vendor coordination when required to support production systems.
  • Documentation & Governance: Maintains technical documentation including requirements, interface specifications, data mappings, API/service documentation, configuration details, runbooks, test evidence, change records, and support procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Work Experience: 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in software development, systems integration, API development, or application support. Required
  • Experience developing and supporting enterprise integrations, APIs, databases, and vendor platforms. Required
  • Knowledge of Jack Henry SymXchange, Symitar/Episys, PowerOn, or similar core banking technologies preferred. Required
  • Proficiency with .NET/C#, Java, Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, SQL, and common integration technologies. Required
  • Knowledge of REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, secure file transfer, authentication, and API security. Required
  • Experience with source control, change management, testing, and deployment practices. Required
  • Understanding of security, audit, and data privacy requirements within regulated environments. Required
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Required
  • Familiarity with Jack Henry vendor coordination, implementation support practices, release planning, and production support expectations. Preferred
  • Experience with middleware or integration platforms, message queues, ETL/data movement tools, scheduled jobs, reporting/data platforms, or similar enterprise integration technologies. Preferred
  • Experience developing or supporting integrations involving member data, account data, transactions, loans, payments, file maintenance, or other core banking workflows. Preferred
  • Experience working in financial services, credit unions, or another highly regulated environment. Preferred

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Software Development, or a closely related field OR equivalent combination of education, experience, or military experience. Required
  • Certification/License Microsoft, CompTIA, secure development, cloud, API, database, or vendor-specific certifications related to application development and systems integration. Preferred
  • Certification/License Jack Henry, Symitar, SymXchange, PowerOn, or other core banking training/certification. Preferred
