What is a junior Python engineer?

Junior Python Engineers are entry-level software developers who specialize in using the Python programming language to build, test, and maintain software applications. They typically work under the guidance of more experienced developers, contributing to coding, debugging, and documentation tasks. Junior Python Engineers may also assist in writing scripts, automating processes, and learning best practices in software development as they gain experience. This role is ideal for recent graduates or those with limited professional experience in programming.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior Python engineer?

To thrive as a Junior Python Engineer, you need a solid understanding of Python programming, basic software development principles, and a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and common Python libraries such as Flask or Django is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and effective communication make a candidate stand out in collaborative development teams. These skills are vital for producing reliable code, integrating smoothly into team workflows, and growing quickly in a technical environment.

Job description

We are looking for a Junior Developer to join as a full-time. This is a development role with a heavy data management component - you'll be building tooling and pipelines that directly support how the team manages and analyzes sustainability data. You'll work closely with the team and interact directly with front office stakeholders, so clear communication matters as much as technical ability.
Key Deliverables and Outcomes
Well-structured data pipelines that support Sustainability Engineering workflows
Internal tooling that improves how the team manages, accesses, and analyzes data
Clean, documented code and clear communication with stakeholders throughout
Primary Responsibilities
Develop internal tools that support data management and reporting needs across the Sustainability team
Structure and organize data to support consistent, reliable access across workflows and applications
Build and maintain data pipelines and ETL workflows in Python and SQL against Snowflake
Communicate directly with investment professionals: flag issues early, set expectations, and follow through
Work in an environment where priorities shift quickly; pivot without losing context on deprioritized work
Qualifications
4+ years' experience in a development role.
Solid Python skills and comfortable working with data.
Hands-on SQL experience; Snowflake familiarity a plus
Strong communication skills - able to give clear, direct updates to non-technical stakeholders
Comfortable operating in a front office environment: urgency, changing priorities, and high standards for output
Familiarity with Git and standard development workflows
