JOB SUMMARY
As a Junior Cost Estimator, you will play a crucial role in analyzing project requirements, gathering data, and providing accurate cost estimates for various construction projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent must have the skills, ability, and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Assist senior cost estimators in analyzing project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Utilize construction cost estimation software and tools to generate detailed estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments, such as engineering, procurement, and project management, to gather relevant data for the estimation process.
  • Conduct research to collect data on material and labor costs, equipment rates, and industry trends to ensure accurate and up to date cost inputs.
  • Analyze historical cost data from past projects to identify patterns and trends that can inform current estimations.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from project drawings and specifications, ensuring that all relevant items are accounted for or in the cost estimation process.
  • Verify quantities against project documents to maintain accuracy in the estimation.
  • Collaborate with the proposal team to compile cost estimations into comprehensive proposals for submission.
  • Assist in developing clear and concise cost breakdowns and explanations for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized and well-documented files for each estimate.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • High school diploma or GED. Degree is a plus.
  • Prior experience or internships in construction cost estimation is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings and project documents.
  • Proficiency in using construction cost estimation and tools.
  • Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and industry-specific terminology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with numerical data accurately.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and present estimation results.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard cost estimation practices and techniques is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to maintain: 1) reliable and safe transportation to other BMCS jobsites 2) valid California driver's license, 3) proper vehicle registration, and 4) California's minimum automobile insurance coverage requirement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed primarily indoors.
  • Lighting is artificial.
  • Equipment used includes standard office equipment i.e. computer, telephone, adding machine, printer and copier.

The base pay range for this position is $25.00-$35.00.
