Junior Infrastructure Engineer

Richmond, VA (Hybrid)

$70-75k depending on experience

12-month Contract-to-Hire


We are hiring a motivated and detail-oriented Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team in our Elevate Program, supporting one of our Fortune 500. This program provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career technology professional to develop expertise in enterprise Linux administration, automation, cybersecurity compliance, and infrastructure operations. Through the Elevate program, you will receive structured and tailored technical training, professional development, mentorship, and cultural enrichment throughout your first year to bring you up to a mid-level professional capability.


As a Jr. Infrastructure Engineer, you will support Red Hat Linux systems, assist with server patching and maintenance activities, troubleshoot basic operating system issues, and work alongside senior engineers to ensure reliable and secure infrastructure services. This role provides hands-on experience with enterprise-class technologies and offers significant growth opportunities within Infrastructure Operations.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 0-3 years of experience supporting Linux, Windows, or enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Basic understanding of Linux operating systems and command-line administration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Linux coursework, internships, lab projects, or personal Linux experience.
  • Knowledge of basic scripting concepts (Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Experience using ServiceNow or other ticketing systems.
  • Entry-level Linux certification (Linux+, RHCSA, or equivalent).


Primary Responsibilities:

Linux Server Administration

  • Assist with the administration and support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers.
  • Monitor server health, performance, and availability.
  • Perform routine system maintenance activities.
  • Assist with operating system upgrades and server lifecycle management.
  • Support server provisioning, configuration, and decommissioning activities.

Patching and Vulnerability Management

  • Participate in monthly Linux patching activities.
  • Validate successful patch installation and server health after maintenance.
  • Assist with remediation of operating system vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain patching and compliance documentation.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives and audit requirements.

Incident and Operational Support

  • Investigate and troubleshoot basic Linux operating system issues.
  • Assist in resolving incidents and service requests.
  • Document troubleshooting steps and solutions.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation after completing required training.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior engineers when appropriate.

Automation and Process Improvement

  • Learn and assist with Ansible automation activities.
  • Support execution of automation playbooks and operational workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation.
  • Assist in maintaining operational procedures and technical documentation.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Linux, Windows, Monitoring, Cybersecurity, and Application Support teams.
  • Participate in team meetings, knowledge-sharing activities, and training opportunities.
  • Build technical knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
