Job description

hackajob is collaborating with BNY to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role.

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Vice President, Senior Full Stack Engineer to design and deliver business-critical applications while providing technical leadership across the engineering lifecycle. This is an individual-contributor role for an experienced engineer who remains deeply engaged in coding while guiding architecture, mentoring engineers, strengthening code quality, and partnering with stakeholders across business and technology functions.

The successful candidate will combine strong execution with sound judgmentโ€”evaluating architectural and implementation options, articulating trade-offs, identifying risks and dependencies early, and helping teams reach pragmatic decisions that support both near-term delivery and long-term platform health.

Role emphasis: This is not a people-manager position. It is a senior technical IC role with significant ownership, influence, mentoring responsibility, and hands-on delivery expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver high-quality full-stack software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, Python, APIs, relational and non-relational data stores, and cloud-native technologies.

  • Remain hands-on with coding, debugging, automated testing, performance tuning, production troubleshooting, and implementation of complex or high-risk components.

  • Provide technical leadership for complex initiatives, shaping solution architecture, implementation strategy, integration patterns, and delivery approach from concept through production.

  • Evaluate architecture and technology options and clearly communicate trade-offs involving scalability, performance, security, resilience, maintainability, delivery speed, operational complexity, and total cost of ownership.

  • Lead and contribute to code reviews, design reviews, and engineering discussions, ensuring solutions meet quality, security, testing, observability, and supportability standards.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, design discussions, troubleshooting, and practical guidance that improves technical judgment and independent ownership.

  • Partner with stakeholders across product, operations, risk, compliance, architecture, platform engineering, and business functions to understand objectives and translate them into pragmatic technology solutions.

  • Communicate technical concepts, delivery options, constraints, and recommendations in a clear manner tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Proactively identify technical, delivery, operational, security, and cross-team dependency risks early; assess potential impact, escalate appropriately, and drive mitigation plans before commitments are affected.

  • Coordinate dependencies across teams, platforms, shared services, and external partners to maintain alignment and predictable delivery.

  • Balance immediate business priorities with long-term architectural sustainability, minimizing avoidable technical debt while enabling timely execution.

  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, including automation, testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, security, developer experience, and production readiness.

  • Support production stability by participating in root-cause analysis, implementing durable corrective actions, and improving monitoring and operational controls.

  • Contribute to modernization efforts involving cloud adoption, containerized platforms, API-first design, event-driven architecture, reusable UI capabilities, workflow automation, and AI-enabled engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience designing and building enterprise-grade applications in a hands-on software engineering role.

  • Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with practical experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, integrations, and distributed systems.

  • Strong front-end development experience with Angular, TypeScript, modern state-management patterns, responsive design, and component-based architecture.

  • Working proficiency in Python for application development, automation, data processing, or engineering productivity use cases.

  • Demonstrated experience making architecture and design decisions and explaining the reasoning, assumptions, risks, and trade-offs behind those decisions.

  • Experience with cloud-native platforms, containers, Kubernetes or OpenShift, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and secure software delivery practices.

  • Proven ability to review code constructively, improve engineering quality, and mentor less-experienced developers without becoming a delivery bottleneck.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence teams and work effectively with business and technology stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ownership of complex initiatives, cross-team dependencies, production issues, and risk mitigation.

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services, wealth management, investment platforms, or another highly regulated environment.

  • Experience with event-driven systems, messaging platforms, asynchronous workflows, and resilient integration patterns.

  • Experience modernizing legacy applications and migrating workloads from VM-based environments to containerized or cloud-native platforms.

  • Experience with application security, enterprise authentication and authorization, data protection, auditability, and regulatory controls.

  • Experience applying AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, or automation to improve engineering productivity and software delivery.
