Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer V will be responsible for proactively completing Civil Engineering Design projects and managing technical requirements, schedules, contract obligations, and communications. They will work with the civil engineering team designing transportation projects and lead various disciplines to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Clients include Illinois-based agencies including: IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Cook County DOTH, DuPage County DOT, CDOT, and other municipalities.

POSITION FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and review transportation engineering design plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates in compliance with IDOT, Tollway, County, and Agency standards.

• Lead and support geometric design and modeling in current computer aided design (CAD) software for roadways, highways, sidewalks, and multi-use paths.

• Coordinate with the Design Manager, Project Engineers, structural, geotechnical, traffic, utility, and other team disciplines to deliver projects.

• Follow up and coordinate schedules and deliverables with subconsultants.

• Serve as PM and/or Engineer of Record, supporting project scoping, budgeting, and scheduling.

• Attend client meetings and public meetings.

• Mentor and delegate work to junior staff.

• Prepare detailed scopes of work and level of effort estimates.

• Understand and apply client and industry engineering specifications to projects.

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

• BS in Civil Engineering or related field.

• 10+ years of experience.

• Professional Engineer License in Illinois is required.

• Software proficiency in Bentley MicroStation SS10 and OpenRoads Designer is required.

• Knowledge of IDOT, Illinois Tollway, and various municipalities' Standards and Specifications.

• Certifications or training from IDOT and ISTHA such as Documentation of Contract Quantities, Erosion Sediment, ADA Ramp, and eBuilder preferred.

• Strong understanding of construction and engineering practices.

• Demonstrate a proactive, collaborative approach with project team members, client representatives, and review agencies.

• Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to clearly communicate concepts and ideas.

• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
