Senior Project Manager

The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced consultant with 10+ years of project management experience  and  strong client development and relationship skills.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with a “seller/doer” approach, have strong technical and project management skills, and an ability to manage a team and develop staff. Open to candidates around Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. This position is organized under WCG’s Environmental Practice Group primarily managing and implementing complex due diligence and large-scale remediation projects primarily on the east coast. The candidate should possess a balanced portfolio of skills including a strong technical understanding of their primary area of practice and Pennsylvania Act 2 experience in other aspects of environmental consulting, and experience interpreting environmental regulations, interacting with various state and federal regulatory entities and designing site assessment and remediation activities to satisfy regulatory requirements and act as a good steward of the client’s interests. The duties and responsibilities of the position include the following:

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion quality and demonstrate leadership by personal high standards for work processes and products and exemplary service to clients.
  • Negotiate and agree on project scope, job tasks, contract terms, budget, and schedule with Clients.
  • Manage work to meet contract schedules, appropriate codes and regulations, regulatory compliance and/or enforcement and industry standard-of-care criteria.
  • Provide input for and develop written technical reports for delivery to clients, perform quality control review, and maintain deliverable quality to meet internal and client requirements.
  • Lead and manage complex environmental investigation and remediation projects, including those conducted under Pennsylvania Act 2, RCRA Corrective Action, CERCLA, and other state voluntary cleanup and remediation programs, as applicable.
  • Coordinate with federal and state regulatory agencies, including PADEP, NJDEP,MDE, USEPA, and other environmental agencies.
  • Actively support and participate in the company health and safety program by teaching and enforcing health and safety standards, regulations, and procedures.
  • Successfully manage $500,000+ of net revenue performed annually.  Net revenue goals can be met through managing WCG client work and business development efforts.  Work to be performed at profit margins generally consistent with other managers.
  • Develop new business to support revenue goals.  Generate at least one new client annually, with new client net revenues of at least $50,000 - $100,000.

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, or related field with at least 10 plus years of project management experience
  • Hold professional registration or certification (e.g. PE or PG)
  • Experience managing environmental assessment and remediation projects under Pennsylvania Act 2, PADEP regulations, or comparable state voluntary cleanup/brownfield redevelopment programs is strongly preferred.
  • Execute projects autonomously and have a clear understanding of how to implement projects and provide guidance to the team
  • Expected to be able to provide a higher level of technical knowledge and experience, operate without Senior Manager support/intervention and mentor/support junior technical staff on a technical basis
  • Identifies project risks and ongoing management of the risks appropriate for a moderately complex project
  • Liaise regularly with project Technical Managers, Project Director, technical teams, internal accounting teams, and external clients.
  • Knowledgeable of environmental science principles, policies and regulations
  • Ability to interact/negotiate with regulatory personnel and clients
  • Demonstrated abilities in leadership, management, and administration
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop business from new and existing clients
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge and compliance expertise
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training in accordance with 29CFR 1910.120

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Advanced degree (MS) in engineering or geology
  • Experience with remediation design and implementation (installation, operation, maintenance, and monitoring) of some or all of the following remedial technologies: soil vapor extraction (SVE), sub-slab depressurization (SSD), in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), enhanced reductive dechlorination (ERD)
