Senior DevOps Software Engineer

Location: 254 - World Headquarters Building (WHQ)
Location Address: One American Road, DEARBORN, MI, 48121

Position Description:

Employees in this job function are responsible for designing, developing, testing and maintaining software applications and products to meet customer needs. They are involved in the entire software development lifecycle including designing software architecture, writing code, testing for quality and deploying the software to meet customer requirements. Full-stack software engineering roles, who can develop all components of software including user interface and server side also fall within this job function. AI Integration & Prompt Engineering: Architect production-ready integrations and custom utilities to embed AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, QODO) into Ford’s workflows. Act as the technical lead for prompt design and LLM orchestration to automate code generation across React, Angular, Spring Boot, and FRF. CI/CD, IaC & Tool Modernization: Design and optimize automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) to deploy developer utilities. Modernize tooling infrastructure (SonarQube, GitHub Enterprise) using Terraform (IaC) and containerized workloads on Kubernetes (GKE). API & Backend Development: Own the end-to-end API lifecycle. Design and secure high-throughput backend services using Java (Spring Boot), Go, or Python. Integrate with enterprise API gateways (Apigee) using OAuth2/JWT. Data Engineering & Analytics: Build ETL/ELT workflows to process and move developer data from cloud storage (GCS, BigQuery) to reporting layers. DevOps Metrics & DORA Analytics: Proven ability to define, surface, and analyze key DevOps performance metrics—including DORA metrics such as Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate, and Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR)—to drive engineering effectiveness and continuous improvement. Design and maintain Power BI dashboards to track utility adoption and platform performance. XP Craftsmanship & Technical Support: Embody Agile/XP practices through Test-Driven Development (TDD) and continuous integration. Serve as a technical escalation point to resolve complex build, scan, and deployment issues while mentoring junior engineers.

Skills Preferred:

Strong experience with CI/CD pipeline development, administration, and optimization. Hands-on experience with Jenkins. Experience with GitHub and modern source control workflows. Knowledge of DevOps practices, automation, and software development lifecycle processes. Experience supporting enterprise software engineering organizations. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Experience Required:

Engineer 3 Exp: Prac. In 2 coding lang. or adv. Prac. in 1 lang. 6+ years in IT; 4+ years in development

Experience Preferred:

Full-Stack & Backend Development: Strong programming proficiency in Java (Spring Boot), Go, or Python, coupled with modern frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript, or Angular). API Design & Security: Expert-level knowledge of RESTful API development, API Gateway management (Apigee), and enterprise security protocols (OAuth2, JWT). Data Engineering (ETL/ELT): Hands-on experience designing data pipelines to process, clean, and move data from cloud storage (GCS) to analytics engines (BigQuery), alongside data visualization experience (Power BI, DAX). Agile & XP Practices: Deep understanding of Extreme Programming (XP) practices, continuous delivery, and collaborative software engineering across global, cross-functional teams.
