Job description

RINA is currently recruiting for a Fort Lauderdale Junior Marine Surveyor to join its office in Fort Lauderdale within the North America Marine Division.
Mission
The Junior Surveyor is to contribute to the organization's commitment to maritime safety, compliance, and excellence by applying knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Junior Surveyor supports the surveying team in performing routine inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and staying informed about evolving industry practices.
Key Accountabilities
1. Professional Application:
- Acts as a professional specialist, applying knowledge of rules, regulations, and industry concepts within the organization's framework.
2. Inspection and Reporting:
- Conducts routine surveys on classed ships, platforms, or marine structures for compliance with classification and statutory requirements, following the guidance and supervision of a Surveyor, Senior Surveyor, or Principal Surveyor.
- Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys.
3. File Maintenance:
- Maintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner within the assigned area of responsibility.
4. Continuous Learning:
- Maintains an active awareness of new working methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities.
- Engages in ongoing learning to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to surveying practices.
5. Problem-Solving:
- Recommends new approaches to problems encountered, seeking guidance and supervision from more experienced surveyors.
6. Collaboration and Guidance:
- Collaborates with and seeks guidance from more experienced surveyors to ensure accurate and effective survey outcomes.
- Participates in team activities and contributes to a collaborative work environment.
8. Quality Assurance:
- Contributes to maintaining the quality of surveying work under the guidance of experienced surveyors.
- Assists in the adherence to established standards and procedures.
9. Client Interaction:
- Engages with clients as directed by more experienced surveyors, contributing to problem-solving within the area of expertise.
10. Professional Development:
- Actively participates in training programs and developmental activities to progress toward becoming a fully competent surveyor.
11. Ethical Conduct:
- Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Naval Engineering
Qualifications
• Proficiency in English language relevant with the scope of classification, statutory certification, related services and, before assignment, with future work.
• Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and instructions, as well as the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
• Ability to understand engineering plans and have a basic knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
• Ability, to perform
new building surveys:
- to assess the suitability of certified materials and products supplied for the new building,
- to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been built in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory inspections, tests and trials,
- to issue Certificates, Reports, Records and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
And/or:
ship in service surveys:
- to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been maintained in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory overall inspections, tests and trials,
- to identify the deficiencies to be rectified (if any) and assess whether immediate repair is necessary or a condition may be issued with an appropriate due date,
- to follow-up as required by rules and regulations any repair work or due to previous outstanding conditions,
- to assess whether the deficiencies identified (if any) may be linked with potential failure of the Ship Management System,
- to endorse Certificates, issue Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations.
And/or:
testing activities:
- to assess the suitability of certified materials and products in compliance with applicable rules
- to issue Certificates and prepare Reports and Status in compliance with procedures.
• Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery.
• Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
