Driving the Transformation of Software & Quality Engineering Into a NextGeneration, AIEnabled Capability

Job Summary

The Software Development Engineer of Test (SDET) is a highly technical, senior engineer role responsible for building modern, scalable quality engineering solutions across applications, APIs, and platforms. This role blends software development, SDETlevel automation, AIenabled testing, and quality architecture to accelerate delivery while improving product reliability. 
Operating as a technical leader within agile teams, the SDET drives engineeringfirst testing practices, partners with developers to embed testability into design, enhances CI/CD pipeline quality, and advances enterprise automation frameworks. This role is central to Westfield's transition toward AIaccelerated, developeraligned quality engineering-ensuring our teams deliver resilient, highquality software at speed. 
The SDET does not manage people but serves as a technical mentor, influencer, and engineering anchor across the asset delivery team.

Job Responsibilities

EngineeringForward Quality & Automation

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust automated test frameworks for API, UI, integration, performance, and endtoend testing.
  • Write productionlevel automation code using modern languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#).
  • Implement shiftleft engineering by partnering with developers on unit testing patterns, code quality, and testability design.
  • Ensure automated tests integrate into CI/CD pipelines to improve feedback speed and delivery confidence.
  • Identify and automate highvalue opportunities that replace manual or repetitive validation.

AIEnabled Quality Engineering

  • Use GenAI tools for test generation, code suggestions, defect classification, and quality insights.
  • Contribute to selfhealing automation frameworks and AIassisted testing accelerators.
  • Promote responsible use of AI for engineering workflows and coach team members in AIsupported testing techniques.

Quality Strategy, Architecture & Risk Engineering

  • Translate business and system requirements into riskbased testing strategies and automation coverage models.
  • Partner with developers, architects, and QE Leads to design APIfirst quality strategies aligned to platform modernization.
  • Contribute to test data design, service mocks, simulation layers, and synthetic test environments.
  • Analyze logs, telemetry, and monitoring data to identify systemic issues and drive longterm quality improvements.

Collaboration, Delivery Excellence & Modern Engineering Practices

  • Work directly with Application Engineering, DevSecOps, Architecture, and Operations to build a unified quality model.
  • Improve pipeline quality through CI/CD best practices, static analysis, quality gates, and automated checks.
  • Participate in production issue reviews; identify root causes and inject corrective actions into future sprints.
  • Mentor junior engineers and testers on automation patterns, debugging, API testing, and engineering best practices.

Execution, Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Perform handson testing of complex workflows, integrations, and edge cases where human judgment is required.
  • Evaluate defects, logs, and system behavior to identify gaps in coverage or test strategy.
  • Maintain highquality documentation for test frameworks, automation suites, and quality processes.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, frameworks, and engineering techniques aligned with enterprise standards.

Job Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years in software engineering, test automation, SDET, or quality engineering roles.
  • Strong programming experience in one or more languages (Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, etc.).
  • Expertise with modern test frameworks (JUnit/TestNG, PyTest, Playwright/Cypress, REST Assured, etc.).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and DevSecOpsaligned practices.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and modern software engineering principles.
  • Experience with AIenabled quality engineering tools (selfhealing, autonomous test generation, etc.).
  • Experience with observability, logs, dashboards, and performance testing tools (Dynatrace, LoadRunner, Graylog).
  • Handson experience testing and automating REST APIs, microservices, integrations, and cloudbased systems.
  • Cloud or container experience (AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Industry certifications (CSQE, ISTQB, or similar).
