Leidos' Defense Sensor is seeking a talented Senior Java Software Developer with a background and experience in software engineering and/or computer science to join a large and diverse team at Huntsville, AL (Redstone Arsenal) that develops software products used for critical test, planning, and training for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and provides analysis, and testing support for complex MDA radar systems. We have offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields providing responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The applicant will join a group of highly technical engineers and analysts supporting the development of a fielded software product used for radar placement, evaluation, and relocation planning that is used for currently deployed missile defense radar systems. The applicant should be a self-starter and be able to work well with both junior and senior level software developers.

Primary Responsibilities:

In this role you will function as the focal point for ensuring that the existing software product is constructed in a scalable form allowing for the integration of additional sensor model representations and for the ability to have various levels of functionality modeled for each new sensor type. Product requests and requirements come at a dynamic and often rapid pace. This role will include working with an established team of software developers and interface on a regular basis with a diverse team of systems and radar engineers. This position is 100% in-person on-site work at a government facility. Working daily on-site at customer facilities on a multi-contractor team and interacting regularly with industry partners and the government customer, the candidate will be expected to represent Leidos technically, professionally, and ethically.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or a related STEM discipline, plus 12- 15 years of experience in computer science or software development or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline, plus 10-13 years of experience in computer science or software development.

  • Must have significant knowledge and experience in Java.

  • Must have experience using C++ and be able to develop and maintain interfaces between Java and C++ applications.

  • Must have experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes, along with a general understanding of containerization concepts.

  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama areaorwilling to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

  • Candidate must possess and be able to maintain a SECRET clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with significant experience using the GitLab environment and Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines are highly preferred.

Candidates with experience in developing 3D visualization GUIs using Java are preferred.
Candidates with experience in modeling & simulation software are preferred.
