Job Summary:
SimIS Inc. is an innovative information technology solution Veteran Owned Small Business focused on modeling future environments and securing enterprises. They are seeking a Software Developer II to support U.S. military Modeling & Simulation efforts, contributing to the design, development, integration, and maintenance of simulation systems for training and analysis in defense environments.
Responsibilities:
• Designs, implements, and maintains simulation software for military training and analysis
• Contributes to software architecture decisions and technical design reviews
• Integrates models and simulations with C4ISR systems, data sources, and external interfaces using DIS, HLA, and DDS protocols
• Translates operational military requirements into scalable and reusable software components
• Develops and tests simulation scenarios, models, and system behaviors to meet fidelity and performance requirements
• Collaborates with systems engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and military users to validate simulation capabilities
• Ensures compliance with software development standards, security guidelines, and configuration management practices
• Contributes to technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals
• Mentors junior developers and participates in code reviews
• Supports system integration testing and troubleshooting
• Participates in requirements analysis and system design activities
Qualifications:
Required:
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
• OR Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of relevant software development experience
• At least 2 years of software development experience, with exposure to M&S domain preferred
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages: C++, C#, Java, or Python
• Experience with simulation frameworks such as HLA, DIS, or similar M&S tools
• Understanding of software engineering best practices including Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Experience with software testing and quality assurance practices
Preferred:
• Experience with DoD M&S standards and tools (STOW, RTI, SISO standards)
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices and version control systems
• Understanding of military doctrine, tactics, and operational scenarios
• Experience with GIS, terrain databases, or synthetic environment generation
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with distributed systems and real-time processing
