Hatch is seeking a dynamic Junior Buyer/Expeditor new graduate. Reporting to the Project Management & Construction Delivery, Procurement group, you will support offices globally working from our Calgary, Alberta office location.

The Junior Buyer/Expeditor, in close co-operation with the engineering and other procurement team members, is essential for the purchase and delivery of project material/equipment in accordance with the project needs. The Junior Buyer/Expeditor ensures that all materials/equipment are released for delivery and handed over to logistics for delivery or delivered to the job site by the vendor in accordance with the provisions of the purchase order. The Junior Buyer/Expeditor possesses coordination skills with a familiarity of manufacturing processes and materials engineering and supply in the project and construction environment. Well-developed planning skills and strong interpersonal skills are required to ensure that potential problems are anticipated, slippage or delays in deliveries are prevented and that corrective measures are implemented proactively to ensure that risks with regard to schedule and cost are mitigated effectively.

Responsibilities / Tasks:

  • Responsible for performing the purchasing activities in accordance with purchasing procedures
  • Expedites all project equipment/materials in accordance with the expediting plan
  • Ensure that the data for reporting is complete and accurate
  • Coordination of information relating to packing lists and delivery documentation including any documentation required for export purposes
  • Ensure all relevant release documentation is issued as per the Project Execution Plan
  • Interface with client and project members regarding expediting issues
  • Coordination and communication with vendors and internal disciplines using iPas MP or other forms of reporting to maintain project schedules and prevent any delays
  • Management of Change orders.
  • Monitor vendor engineering and manufacturing schedules to ensure schedule is maintained and pro-actively manage any possible delays
  • Coordinates with Quality surveillance to ensure the scheduled inspections are performed timely
  • Handover to logistics to facilitate delivery as per the purchase order pending on Incoterms conditions specified in the purchase order

Qualifications:

  • Must be working towards graduating in 2026, or recently graduated, with a bachelorโ€™s degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management or a related discipline (Business Administration, Commerce, or Economics), with knowledge of procurement, logistics, and supply chain operations within a technical/engineering environment
  • A degree of technical aptitude and familiarity with various materials, fabrication processes and supply items
  • Elementary knowledge of preservation and packaging procedures
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 and ISO 19011
  • Multi-discipline knowledge/awareness
  • Proven track record in a similar position
  • Relevant technical qualification or trade qualification
  • Communication skills โ€“ writing reports, presenting and leading vendor meetings
