Our staff of over 80 provides planning, design, and construction support services for federal, state, municipal, tribal, and private clients on projects in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop construction documents (drawings, specifications, and cost estimates) for community water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Design of water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Design of piped water distribution and sewage collection systems.
  • Design of wastewater pump stations.
  • Develop reports/studies, including evaluation of alternatives and cost estimating.
  • Prepare calculations for engineering designs as necessary.
  • Develop DEC plan review checklists / permit applications and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
  • Perform construction administration services (submittal reviews, periodic inspections, start-up services, etc.).
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • As required, oversee EITs and technical staff, assign tasks, and review / approve their work for planning, design, and construction administration.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with engineering design and construction of arctic and subarctic water and wastewater systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental health rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, administrative orders, and other operational guidelines and directives.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with co-workers, contractors, governmental agencies, and clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multi-discipline engineering staff at various experience levels.
  • Desire to mentor junior staff to develop capabilities and career goals.
  • Resourceful, innovative, and motivated to help clients meet project objectives.
  • Willing and able to travel to remote Alaska villages in small aircraft and lodge under camp-like settings for multiple days.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Alaska or have a PE license in another state and the ability to obtain a PE license in the State of Alaska within 12 months of accepting the position.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional, relevant experience in the engineering field.
  • Experience working in rural Alaska is a plus.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and/or Revit is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ingress/egress from small planes, ATV use, cold weather resiliency.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds at times.
  • Willingness to travel to communities throughout Alaska with sufficient notice.
