What is a Junior Flutter Developer job?

A Junior Flutter Developer is an entry-level software developer specializing in Flutter, a UI toolkit for building natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase. They assist in developing, testing, and maintaining Flutter applications under the guidance of senior developers. Their responsibilities often include writing clean code, fixing bugs, and collaborating with designers and other team members to improve user experience. This role is ideal for those with basic knowledge of Dart, Flutter framework, and mobile app development principles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Junior Flutter Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Flutter Developer, you need proficiency in Dart programming, a solid understanding of mobile app development fundamentals, and a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with Flutter SDK, version control systems like Git, and basic knowledge of REST APIs are commonly expected, while certifications in mobile development can be beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, teamwork, and a willingness to learn from senior developers distinguish outstanding candidates. These skills and qualities enable you to build functional, user-friendly mobile applications while collaborating effectively within dynamic development teams.

What are the typical responsibilities of a Junior Flutter Developer on a development team?

As a Junior Flutter Developer, your primary responsibilities usually include assisting in the design and development of mobile applications using the Flutter framework, writing clean and maintainable code, and fixing bugs or issues as they arise. You may also participate in code reviews, contribute to testing processes, and implement new features as directed by senior developers or project leads. Collaboration is key, so you will often work closely with UI/UX designers, QA testers, and other developers to ensure that the app meets project requirements and maintains a high standard of quality. This hands-on experience helps broaden your technical skills and prepares you for more advanced roles within the team.

Are there any types of candidate profiles or skills that may not be the right fit for this team?
Candidates may not be the right fit for this role if they lack strong native iOS development experience, have limited exposure to Swift, or have primarily worked with cross-platform technologies. Those who haven't owned end-to-end app delivery-including shipping to the App Store, debugging production issues, and optimizing performance-may also struggle in this role. Additionally, candidates without solid architectural skills or experience integrating with RESTful APIs may not meet the technical demands. Finally, individuals who prefer working independently rather than in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, or those seeking more junior-level responsibilities, would likely not align well with the expectations of this senior iOS engineering position.
Are there any immediate disqualifiers or red flags that stand out?
Immediate red flags for this role include candidates who lack hands-on Swift experience or rely primarily on Objective-C or cross-platform frameworks like Flutter or React Native. It's also a concern if they've never shipped or maintained a production iOS app or can't demonstrate strong understanding of core iOS architecture patterns such as MVC or MVVM. Candidates who struggle to discuss API integration, performance optimization, debugging techniques, or scalable app design may not meet the technical expectations. Additionally, limited experience collaborating in Agile or cross-functional environments, overinflated titles without matching responsibilities, or an inability to produce clean, maintainable code are all indicators that the candidate may not be a strong fit for a senior iOS engineering position.
Senior iOS Engineer
We are seeking a Senior iOS Engineer to help design, develop, and maintain our iOS mobile applications. In this role, you will contribute to the full app lifecycle-from initial concept to delivery and ongoing support-and play a key role in driving our overall mobile strategy.
Responsibilities
Serve as a senior iOS engineer for our mobile applications and shared SDK.
Deliver across the entire app lifecycle: design, build, test, deploy, release, and post-launch support.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and other cross-functional teams to define, build, and launch new features.
Standardize and scale a shared platform to support multiple product lines or brands efficiently.
Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and performance optimizations.
Partner with backend, Android, and web engineering teams to align on architecture and long-term technical roadmap.
Evaluate and integrate emerging iOS technologies to maximize development efficiency.
Stay current with industry trends, Apple frameworks, and platform updates.
Qualifications
BA/BS in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
4+ years of experience developing iOS applications using Swift; experience with Objective-C is a plus.
Demonstrated experience shipping apps to the App Store (links to public apps preferred).
Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and debugging.
Experience architecting and building high-performance iOS applications.
Experience integrating with RESTful APIs (JSON/XML).
Familiarity with third-party SDKs and APIs (e.g., social platforms, analytics tools).
Experience implementing push notification strategies.
Proficient in Git and Git Flow branching strategies.
Experience working in Agile, cross-functional teams.
(Optional) Experience with SwiftUI, Combine, CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing frameworks.
