Position Description:
CGI Federal is seeking a Senior Data Migration Engineer to lead complex data extraction, transformation, validation, and migration activities within a major federal modernization program. The engineer will support petabyte scale data transition efforts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, security, and performance in moving structured and unstructured datasets from legacy environments to modern cloud-based architectures. This senior role provides technical leadership, develops advanced migration strategies, mentors mid-level engineers, and ensures alignment with architecture, security, and mission requirements.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Advanced Data Migration & ETL Leadership
• Lead development, enhancement, and optimization of ETL/ELT pipelines for large scale, multi-source data migration.
• Perform complex data extraction, transformation, governance, and cleansing activities supporting high volume data flows.
• Design data mapping frameworks and transformation logic for legacy to cloud migration.
• Guide automation improvements to increase pipeline throughput, resiliency, and repeatability.
Data Quality, Validation & Issue Resolution
• Conduct advanced data integrity analysis, completeness checks, anomaly detection, and error remediation.
• Support and lead quality verification for incoming and migrated datasets.
• Collaborate with QA/test engineering teams to embed automated validation within pipeline operations.
Technical Collaboration & Integration
• Coordinate with Cloud Engineers, DevSecOps teams, Data Engineers, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to ensure alignment across technical workstreams.
• Support readiness testing for migration events, legacy system retirements, and cloud landing zone configuration.
• Participate in technical design reviews, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and integration checkpoints.
Migration Strategy & Leadership
• Provide guidance to mid level engineers on data migration methods, ETL tools, best practices, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and refine reusable templates, mapping documents, and procedural artifacts.
• Proactively identify risks impacting migration success and propose mitigation strategies.
Documentation, Reporting & Compliance
• Create detailed migration documentation, including mapping specifications, data dictionaries, flow diagrams, and SOPs.
• Contribute to migration status reporting, dashboard updates, and operational metrics.
• Ensure alignment with federal data governance, security, and handling requirements.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Must have Active Top Secret Security Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of hands on experience in data migration, ETL development, or large scale data engineering.
• Expertise in structured/unstructured data transformation, cleansing, and validation.
• Experience designing and operating advanced ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud migration (AWS preferred), big data tooling, and automation.
• Strong problem solving skills and ability to support complex, high volume migration operations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with petabyte scale data migrations or multi system consolidation.
• Background supporting DOJ, FBI, IC, or national security modernization programs.
• Experience with DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD workflows, or automated testing frameworks.
• Advanced knowledge of scripting languages, distributed compute tools, or cloud native ETL services.
Due to the nature of this government contract, US Citizenship is required.
