Junior Developer Operations Engineers, often called Junior DevOps Engineers, are entry-level professionals who assist in bridging the gap between software development and IT operations. They help automate processes, manage deployment pipelines, and monitor systems to ensure reliability and efficiency. Their responsibilities typically include writing scripts, managing cloud infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with development and operations teams to improve workflows. As juniors, they work under the guidance of senior DevOps engineers and are often learning new tools and practices on the job.

Job description

Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.

We seek a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing team. This role will own all layers of the technical stack that powers our breakthrough research, development, and production operations, from physical hardware deployment to application-layer automation. You’ll work with engineers and scientists across the company to build out infrastructure that meets the demanding requirements of the healthcare industry while enabling rapid innovation.

Role responsibilities:
  • Design and implement infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Docker) for our mostly on-prem, ~20% cloud environment
  • Build and manage core infrastructure: Kubernetes clusters, Ceph distributed storage, physical servers, and networking systems spanning all stages of R&D through production
  • Develop and maintain automation tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and logging / monitoring systems to reduce manual operations and increase reliability across the org
  • Implement security best practices across all infrastructure layers (access controls, data protection, audit compliance)
  • Translate regulatory requirements into simple, robust technical implementations
  • 7+ years in DevOps engineering
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with a track record of building and maintaining critical tools
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and configuration management (Ansible)
    • Container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, VPN)
    • Security practices (SSL/TLS, SSH, encryption, LDAP)
    • Distributed storage systems (Ceph)
  • Experience building and managing physical infrastructure in on-prem or hybrid environments
Preferred qualifications:
  • Healthcare or regulated industry experience (medical / laboratory systems, production lines, aerospace)
  • Monitoring stack experience (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki)
