Job description

Build the Cloud Platform Powering the Next Generation of Connected Technology

Why Fieldpiece?

Fieldpiece is a privately held, global leader in professional HVACR tools and test instruments. We're known for developing innovative products that technicians rely on every day—and for investing in our people, our technology, and our future. Named one of the Best Places to Work in Southern California for four consecutive years, we're looking for talented people who want to make an impact while growing their careers.

Why This Role?

Our connected products depend on secure, scalable, and highly available cloud platforms - and that's where you come in.

As a Senior Cloud and DevOps Engineer, you'll help build, operate, and continuously improve the AWS-hosted infrastructure that powers Fieldpiece's connected products, SaaS applications, and data services. You'll work across cloud infrastructure, containerized applications, infrastructure as code, automation, monitoring, and incident response to ensure our platforms remain reliable, secure, and ready to scale.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll partner closely with software engineers, product teams, and IT to automate deployments, improve system reliability, and support the continued evolution of our connected products and digital ecosystem.

This position may be based in either our Orange, CA (moving to Tustin, CA in 2028) or Heber City, UT.  Weekend and after-hours support will occasionally be required. Travel is expected to be up to 10%.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and support AWS cloud infrastructure and ECS-based containerized environments supporting production and development systems.
  • Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform while automating provisioning, deployments, and operational processes.
  • Monitor system health, performance, availability, and security while troubleshooting production issues and implementing preventive improvements.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, and CloudWatch.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with software engineering teams to improve deployment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure for scalability, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to the continuous improvement of production operations.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

  • Work on products that connect the physical and digital worlds. Help power cloud platforms supporting professional HVACR tools used by technicians worldwide.
  • Modern cloud technologies. Work with AWS, ECS, Terraform, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, and infrastructure automation.
  • Own reliability at scale. Influence the architecture, automation, and operational excellence of production systems that customers depend on every day.
  • Continuous innovation. Help evolve Fieldpiece's cloud infrastructure as we continue investing in connected products, IoT, and AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Collaborative engineering culture. Partner with talented software engineers, product teams, and technology leaders to solve complex technical challenges.

In Your First Year, You'll Likely

  • Build relationships internally and externally to become the trusted technical resource for the cloud infrastructure supporting Fieldpiece's connected products.
  • Improve and optimize AWS infrastructure including performance, scalability, availability, automation, deployment consistency, and operational efficiency through Infrastructure as Code and DevOps best practices.
  • Strengthen monitoring, observability, and incident response capabilities to improve system reliability.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a senior DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, or similar role supporting enterprise cloud environments with the ability to manage environments independently.
  • Experience supporting AWS infrastructure and containerized application environments.
  • Strong experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Experience with Docker, Amazon ECS, Kubernetes concepts, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong Linux and Windows administration experience.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience supporting AI-assisted or AI-first development and DevOps workflows.
  • Experience with AI-enabled platforms, automation, or data-intensive cloud environments.
  • Experience with connected devices, IoT platforms, HVAC technologies, or field-service software.

Why You’ll Enjoy Working at Fieldpiece

  • As a privately held company, we invest for the long term—in our people, our products, and our future. That means we can focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and building lasting careers rather than chasing short-term results.
  • Work alongside talented, collaborative teammates who are passionate about innovation and solving real-world problems.
  • Make a meaningful impact in a company where your ideas are heard, your expertise is valued, and your contributions help shape the future of our products and business.
