OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Junior Interior Designer to join our in-house design team on-site at our Tribeca showroom. This individual will work closely with our senior designers and the broader interior design team on residential and hospitality projects, ranging from local work to projects further out of state. The ideal candidate is early in their career, eager to learn, and passionate about high-end residential design.

Powered by the strength and success of the retail brand, all projects are designed, detailed, and ultimately procured in-house, providing an unparalleled service experience. Our strength in furniture, decor, construction, and manufacturing, coupled with solution-driven design, creates spaces that reflect the spirit and lifestyle of our clients in a timeless, luxurious way.

This is a full-time, New York City based role. You will work out of our Tribeca showroom and travel to client homes alongside senior designers to support design meetings and installations.

This role sits at Level I on our interior design track, with a defined path to Intermediate Interior Designer (Level II) and Interior Designer (Level III) as you take on more independent project ownership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute design tasks under the direction of senior designers, including CAD, SketchUp, and CGI updates, sourcing, and presentation development.
  • Develop floor plans, presentation boards, and renderings.
  • Document FF&E and finishes for full-service design clients.
  • Support the sourcing of furniture, decor, materials, and finishes within client budgets.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Project Management team to assist in purchasing furniture items based on client requests, and coordinate the send-out of fabric and finish samples to clients as needed.
  • Work with external consultants and manufacturers to gather product information as needed.
  • Travel to client homes with senior designers to support design meetings, client presentations, and installations.
  • Learn and consistently apply Kathy Kuo Home design standards and workflows across every project.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design (licensed and unlicensed candidates welcome).
  • 0 to 2 years of professional interior design experience. Internship and studio coursework experience counts.
  • Required skills: AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign
  • Previous design firm experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple deadlines across projects.
  • Must be passionate about interior design, furniture, decor, and architecture.
  • New York City based and able to work New York (EST) business hours, with the ability to travel to client homes as needed.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

  • Direct mentorship from senior designers and exposure to the Kathy Kuo design process.
  • A defined career track with title progression and eligibility for discretionary merit increases based on performance.
  • Hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle, from concept through installation.
  • Access to our exceptionally curated product line and global network of artisans and makers.
  • A collaborative work environment that values creative freedom and professional growth.

HOW TO APPLY

If this sounds like you, we would like to hear from you. Please respond to this job post with your resume, your portfolio, and a short one to two minute video introducing yourself professionally and personally. Qualified candidates will undergo a series of interviews and a design test.
