Intermediate Estimator

AWC Water Solutions Ltd. specializes in providing integrated water, wastewater treatment plants and many other specialized industrial packaged solutions. We offer clients advanced in-house engineering and design with 3D modeling, piloting, fabrication and machining, an in-house control panel shop, and a full range of field services, allowing us to provide turn-key solutions.

AWC is seeking an experienced Intermediate Estimator to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates and budgetary pricing for water and wastewater treatment projects and other specialized industrial packaged solutions. The Intermediate Estimator will independently manage estimates for standard and moderately complex bid projects, working closely with sales, applications engineering, vendors, subcontractors, and other internal stakeholders.

This role requires a strong understanding of estimating principles, technical drawings, project specifications, manufacturing processes, and project costs. The Intermediate Estimator will take greater ownership of the estimating process than a Junior Estimator while continuing to develop the technical, commercial, and industry expertise required to progress toward a Senior Estimator role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develop detailed and comprehensive cost estimates and budgetary pricing for standard and moderately complex bid projects, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Independently manage assigned estimates from initial review through completion and handover.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Collaborate with the sales team and applications engineers to define project requirements, scope, assumptions, exclusions, and estimating strategies.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Review client bid packages, project specifications, P&IDs, process drawings, design drawings, and other technical documentation to identify project requirements, risks, and potential cost impacts.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare material, labour, subcontractor, equipment, fabrication, machining, controls, and other project cost estimates as applicable to the project scope.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Solicit, analyze, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations, identifying discrepancies, exclusions, and opportunities to improve overall project pricing.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Apply sound judgment when developing estimates and identify potential estimating risks, gaps, and cost uncertainties.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain and contribute to the accuracy of the estimating database, including supplier pricing, historical project costs, labour rates, and other relevant estimating information.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors to support competitive and reliable project pricing.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Contribute to the preparation of proposal content, ensuring technical and commercial information is accurately reflected.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Liaise with sales, engineering, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to resolve estimating questions and manage estimate revisions and changes.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare estimates and supporting documentation in accordance with AWC estimating processes, standards, and timelines.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develop project handover packages following award, ensuring that estimating assumptions, pricing information, scope details, and other relevant information are clearly communicated to the project execution team.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Review completed projects and incorporate lessons learned, actual costs, and market information into future estimates.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist with the development and improvement of estimating processes, tools, templates, and methodologies.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provide guidance and informal support to Junior Estimators, sharing knowledge and best practices.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support Senior Estimators on larger or more complex bids and take responsibility for assigned portions of complex estimates.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Perform additional estimating and project quoting duties as required.

Requirements

ย ย ย ย ย ย  3-5 years of related estimating experience, preferably within a manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, construction, or water/wastewater environment.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction, Business, or a related technical discipline.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment is considered an asset.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&ID drawings, process drawings, design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrated ability to independently develop accurate cost estimates for standard and moderately complex projects.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong understanding of material, labour, subcontractor, vendor, fabrication, and equipment costs and their impact on project pricing.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify estimating risks and make sound recommendations.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively work with sales, engineering, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines.
