Job description

Job Summary: This Physician Assistant role is designed to extend and support the Physician's responsibilities by delivering patient-centered evaluations and communication. The PA provides care for designated patients under the supervision and collaboration of a Physician, adhering to all applicable state regulations governing Physician Assistant practice. Medical record entries and orders require Physician authentication, and inpatient evaluations by the Physician must occur at least once every 24 hours. Procedures are supervised directly by a Physician unless competency and approval are documented.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy using critical thinking and problem-solving skills in both acute care and clinic settings.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of patients and families, including health histories, physical exams, and health risk factor analysis.
  • Order and interpret laboratory, radiographic, bedside records, and other clinical data relevant to patient diagnoses and conditions.
  • Establish medical diagnoses and order diagnostic studies.
  • Perform and monitor therapeutic procedures, documenting all findings and plans in the medical record.
  • Collaborate with Physicians, nursing, and other healthcare disciplines to evaluate and direct individualized patient care.
  • Prescribe and regulate medications in accordance with written physician agreements and prescriptive authority requirements.
  • Complete history and physical examinations for admissions, observations, consultations, or clinic visits.
  • Perform daily bedside evaluations and document progress notes for Physician review (inpatient only).
  • Prepare discharge paperwork and summaries timely for assigned patients.
  • Write admitting, daily, and discharge orders appropriate to patient condition and care plans (inpatient only).
  • Foster teamwork and efficient care delivery through collaboration with Physicians and healthcare staff.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, and support staff.
  • Meet regularly with Physicians to review evaluations and care plans.
  • Participate in quality, safety, and utilization studies to enhance patient care and cost-effectiveness.
  • Alert Physicians to acute patient status changes, critical lab values, or radiographic findings for timely intervention.
  • Comply with medical staff rules, regulations, and health information management policies to ensure accurate medical records.
  • Prepare and submit billing materials promptly.
  • Share on-call rotation with Physician backup as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Previous experience as a Physician Assistant is preferred.
  • Maintain required continuing medical education.
Licensure and Certifications:
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Licensed to practice in the relevant state.

Work Shift: 1st Shift
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 24 (Part Time)
