Job description

The lead catastrophe analyst, will provide strategic leadership and direction to a team of analysts, overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of catastrophe risk assessment projects.

Responsibilities include managing resources, setting project priorities, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of modeling processes and results. Will collaborate with senior management, external partners, and stakeholders to integrate catastrophe risk insights into strategic decision-making.

Strong leadership skills, project management expertise, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives

Responsibilities:

1. Leads and oversees complex catastrophe risk assessment projects from start to finish.

2. Develops and implements advanced modeling methodologies to analyze and quantify catastrophe risk.

3. Provides strategic guidance and recommendations to senior management based on comprehensive risk assessments.

4. Mentors and coaches junior analysts, providing technical guidance and support.

5. Collaborates with stakeholders across departments to integrate catastrophe risk insights into strategic decision-making processes.

6. Conducts in-depth reviews and validations of catastrophe models and analysis results.

7. Manages relationships with external partners, such as catastrophe modeling vendors or reinsurers.

8. Leads efforts to enhance and optimize catastrophe modeling processes and workflows.

9. Serves as a subject matter expert on catastrophe risk management, representing the organization in industry forums and conferences.

10. Contributes to the development of company-wide risk management strategies and policies.


  • College degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Finance/General Business or Engineering or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 5-7 years of catastrophe modeling and management reporting experience
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience with catastrophe modeling and exposure management software employed by the CAT unit
  • Strong knowledge of insurance and reinsurance products, underwriting principles, catastrophe risk management, and portfolio exposure management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead analytical initiatives, influence business decisions, and drive process improvements
  • Experience partnering with underwriting, actuarial, risk management and reinsurance teams to support catastrophe risk management and business objectives
  • Expert-level Excel and SQL knowledge
  • Advanced proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and catastrophe modeling workflows
  • Experience with Git/GitHub for version control, code management, and collaborative development
  • Familiarity with AI and Generative AI tools to improve analytics, reporting, and operational efficiency
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar business intelligence and data visualization tools
  • Knowledge of cloud-based analytics platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS
  • Advanced knowledge of Verisk and other catastrophe modeling platforms preferred
  • Experience with catastrophe model validation, sensitivity testing, and uncertainty analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to automate reporting processes and improve data quality controls
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional projects and mentoring junior analysts
  • Ability to communicate complex catastrophe risk analyses to senior leadership and business partners
  • Experience with exposure management, accumulation management and portfolio optimization
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and relational databases in support of CAT analytics

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
