This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of engineers and technicians, you will be responsible for design, analysis, and test input on both compressors and expanders. You'll also work with manufacturing team members to address assembly, fabrication, and part non-conformance issues. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work at significant technical depth on complex subsystems with minimal oversight as part of the Zero Boil Off Turbomachinery Team
  • Use established professional expertise to understand and apply systems engineering fundamentals across the development cycle of systems including concept development, requirements, design, analysis, validation, integrations, safety, configuration management, verification, and test
  • Understand and manage key Technical Performance Metrics for the system
  • Support the development and execution of component and subsystem analysis and tests
  • Coordinate plans for subsystem level verification test and analysis
  • Spearhead the organization and aid in preparation efforts for reviews
  • Ensure timely updates and communication of system level architecture diagrams and schematics
  • Creatively guide the team to balance the objectives of a rapid development program while meeting the intent of standard system engineering processes
  • Tackle a range of design engineer tasks like leading trade studies, component design/integration, 1st order analysis, test support and supplier interface as the opportunities arise
  • Mentor and educate junior Blue Origin employees on systems engineering processes and methods.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
  • 5+ years' experience in Systems Engineering
  • Experience working on highly engineered products in rapid development environment
  • Experience working with cryogenic fluids
  • Understanding and passion for Systems Engineering principles and practices such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, verification, and validation, creating and managing interface control document (ICD), configuration management, and systems engineering management plan (SEMP)
  • Participate, as needed, in technical and programmatic customer interactions that require your expertise
  • Experience working with other project members to drive progress toward milestones
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • 7+ years of experience in aerospace systems engineering
  • Experience with turbomachinery production, qualification testing and flight operations.
  • Experience with requirements development/management tools (DOORS Next Gen, JAMA, etc.)
  • Previous customer facing roles with experience presenting to and directly interacting with customers

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
