Department OverviewExacom, a Motorola Solutions company, provides mission-critical recording solutions for public safety, government, military, and critical infrastructure agencies. Our team supports customers with reliable technology, direct support, and a customer-focused approach to complex recording and data capture environments.
Job Description

We are seeking a Junior Pre-Sales Engineer to support the sales, quoting, and technical discovery process for HindSight, our mission-critical recording platform for public safety, government, military, and critical infrastructure agencies.

The platform captures, stores, and provides access to audio, metadata, screen recording, CAD, 911, radio, and telephony data across a wide range of customer environments. HindSight supports on-premise, hybrid, and cloud-connected deployments and integrates with more than 85 communications systems.

This role is ideal for someone who is customer-facing, technically curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning complex systems. The Junior Pre-Sales Engineer will work closely with Sales, Sales Engineering, Product, Operations, and Support to help define customer requirements, support demos, assist with system design, and ensure quotes are accurate based on each customer's environment.

The right candidate does not need to know every integration or technical detail on day one, but they should be able to ask good questions, learn quickly, communicate clearly, and help translate customer needs into accurate solution requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the pre-sales process for HindSight opportunities, including discovery, demos, quoting, and technical follow-up.

  • Assist Sales and Sales Engineering in gathering customer requirements related to call handling equipment, radio systems, dispatch consoles, CAD, screen recording, storage, user access, and deployment preferences.

  • Help build accurate quotes and BOMs based on customer requirements, licensing needs, hardware platforms, integrations, support options, and system sizing.

  • Participate in customer calls to document technical needs, clarify scope, and identify missing information required for quoting or solution design.

  • Prepare and maintain internal notes, requirements summaries, quote assumptions, and handoff documentation for Operations and Implementation teams.

  • Learn and understand HindSight deployment models, including on-premise, virtualized, hybrid, and cloud-connected environments.

  • Work with internal teams to validate technical assumptions and ensure proposed solutions are achievable, supportable, and aligned with customer expectations.

  • Assist with product demos and presentations by supporting setup, documentation, follow-up questions, and technical clarification.

  • Maintain knowledge of common public safety systems and integrations, including NG911, P25/TETRA radio, commercial radio, dispatch consoles, IP telephony, CAD, RapidSOS, and screen capture.

  • Help improve quoting tools, pre-sales questionnaires, internal workflows, and documentation as the product and pricing models evolve.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree

  • At least 1+ year of experience in a technical, sales support, customer support, implementation, IT, or systems-focused role.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, partners, and internal teams.

  • Ability to understand technical concepts and explain them clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • High attention to detail, especially when working with quotes, requirements, licensing, and configuration details.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities, tasks, and follow-ups at once.

  • Comfort asking questions, documenting answers, and identifying gaps in information.

  • Ability to learn complex product, pricing, and integration logic over time.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools, especially Excel or Sheets.

  • Willingness to work collaboratively across Sales, Engineering, Operations, Product, and Support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in public safety, emergency communications, dispatch, telecommunications, radio, VoIP, or recording systems.

  • Familiarity with PSAP environments, 911 call handling equipment, P25 radio systems, dispatch consoles, CAD systems, or NG911.

  • Experience supporting quotes, BOMs, technical proposals, demos, or RFP responses.

  • Experience using CRM systems, quoting tools, ERP systems, or ticketing platforms.

  • Basic understanding of networking, servers, virtualization, cloud environments, or software integrations.

  • Prior experience in a pre-sales, sales engineering, solutions consulting, or technical support role.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is someone who can sit on a customer call, listen carefully, ask thoughtful follow-up questions, and leave with a clear understanding of what is needed to build an accurate quote. They should be comfortable with both people and details: able to build trust with customers while also tracking technical requirements, part numbers, licensing counts, assumptions, and open questions.

This person should enjoy learning how complex systems fit together and should be comfortable working in an environment where every customer configuration may look different.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Customer requirements are clearly documented and easy for internal teams to understand.

  • Quotes and BOMs are accurate, complete, and aligned with customer needs.

  • Sales teams receive timely technical support throughout the opportunity lifecycle.

  • Customers feel confident that Exacom understands their environment and requirements.

  • Internal handoffs to Operations and Implementation are clean, complete, and actionable.

  • The employee grows into a stronger technical resource with increasing ownership of demos, solution design, and quote development.

Target Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $ $80,000 USD.

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
