Job Description
Everforth ECS is seeking an Atmospheric/Ocean Scientist to work at Stennis Space Center, MS.
This position will be supporting the National Data Buoy Center, (NDBC) and is a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS).
NDBC designs, develops, operates, and maintains a network of global data collecting buoys and coastal stations.
NDBC is located in southern Mississippi at the John C. Stennis Space Center, a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
Required Skills
  • Education: MS in Atmospheric Physical, Physical Oceanography, or other earth science.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • 2 years experience in analyzing meteorological and oceanographic observations (e.g. winds, atmospheric pressure, temperatures, currents, waves) in the marine environment and identifying observational errors of all types.
  • Understands, interprets and describes physical ocean data gathered by in-situ observing stations, satellites.
  • Understands the relationships of numerical atmospheric and ocean products to observational data.
  • Experience with Matlab and/or other scientific programming and analysis tools.
  • Experience with connecting and engaging with customers to improve customer experience.
  • Must be well organized with a specific focus on the details.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate specialized information orally and in writing.

Desired Skills
  • Technical/Scientific writing skills are necessary; having published scientific papers is desirable.
  • Experience with statistical analysis (descriptive, inferential, computational) and machine learning (supervised and unsupervised).
  • Background in physical oceanography with emphasis on waves and/or currents.
  • Experience with developing and implementing quality control algorithms.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk and use a computer for extended periods.
  • The position is generally sedentary, but may require walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • May occasionally be required to move, carry, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds.
  • May occasionally travel (10% or less of the time). When traveling, the employee may witness testing or observe field work. May be required to present on technical topics.
  • Will perform the job daily in an office place setting.
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally low with minimal background noise.
