This position is responsible for selection, growth, and maintenance of the book of business for the companies to produce underwriting profitability through effective underwriting strategy and tactics.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Review transactions to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company standards, guidelines, and procedures.
Make and implement underwriting decisions on transactions, handling underwriting referrals and other miscellaneous risk reviews for assigned territory.
Communicate with field representatives and other expert resources to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies and decisions.
Communicate Underwriting decisions to agents, applicants, and insureds.
Develop and cultivate agency and agent relationships to effectively communicate, lead, and deliver underwriting philosophy that will drive company growth and profitability.
Perform reunderwriting tasks based on loss experience and company goals.
Prioritizes time and resources to effectively manage and optimize workflow and responsive customer service.
Assist in training and cross training Underwriters and Agents.
Actively participate in continuous improvement by fully engaging in team and departmental meetings, generating suggestions, following appropriate procedures and work principles, and participating in educational and self-improvement opportunities to support your work, the work of the team, department, and company.
Report any special problem(s) involving agency force, systems, work flow delay, and correspondence from the Texas Department of Insurance and other regulatory agencies to the assigned Underwriting Manager.
Report, in writing, to the assigned Underwriting Manager any recommended changes in company guidelines, systems, and procedures.
Participate in any special projects or research activities as assigned.
Build business relationships and communicate effectively with employees of other departments regarding transactions related to Underwriting.
Comply with the Certified Fleet Operator requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience as an Underwriter preferred.
Knowledge of basic computer applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective interpersonal verbal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
Ability to plan, organize, and complete detailed work independently or in a team environment.
Valid Texas driver's license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator Status, under the company Driving and Safety Policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Repeated use of PC, telephone, and office machines.
Extended periods of sitting and concentrating.
Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing and reaching in an office environment.
Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional long, irregular work hours.
Travel, as required.
Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
