Job description


Dynamic Manufacturing is searching for a Test Engineer to join our growing team! The Test Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining testing strategies, sequences, and machines for automotive transmissions, engines, drive units, valve bodies, EV batteries, torque converters, transfer cases, and other automotive drivetrain and powertrain parts. The Test Engineer is expected to have a demonstrable understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, and electrical concepts. They should also be able to analyze test result data, suggest and execute changes to testing procedures and limits, design and conduct testing experiments, and collaborate with product engineers, operations, and root cause technicians to improve performance metrics.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintaintesting:
    1. Strategies
    2. Sequences
    3. Dynamometer Test Stands
    4. Solenoid and Valve Body Calibration and test machines
    5. EV Battery End of Line Test
  • Mentor less experienced Test Engineers
  • Responsible for testing equipment capability, capacity, and performance
  • Be an expert on, or be willing and able to learn the components and functionality of automotive transmissions, engines, drive units, valve bodies, EV batteries, torque converters, transfer cases, and other automotive drivetrain and powertrain parts
  • Leverage understanding of physics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical, and electrical concepts
  • Advise on, design, and lead testing experiments to validate products and testing sequences
  • Develop applications for analyzing testing procedures, test results, and test limits
  • Lead the effort on machine throughput, capacity, performance, maintenance, and calibration, rootcause analysis, and testing KPIs
  • Use knowledge of programming languages and database structures to facilitate testing
  • Lead PPAP activities related to test engineering functions


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering or equivalent experience (8-11 years)
  • Practical experience and demonstrated knowledge of:
    1. Automotive transmissions, engines, drive units, valve bodies, EV batteries, torque converters, transfer cases, and other automotive drivetrain and powertrain parts
    2. Data acquisition systems such as NI hardware, Measurement and Computing and PLCs (Automation Direct family brands, Allen Bradly, Siemens Omron…), Arduino, Raspberry pi
    3. Noise Vibration and Harshness sensors and analysis
    4. Designing and implementing industrial machines for testing purposes
    5. Drawing and reading electrical schematics using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical and Visio
    6. Creating and reading mechanical drawings using Inventor
    7. Creating pneumatic and hydraulic drawings
    8. Hydraulic and pneumatic principles, as well as parts selection and operations
    9. Bauer, WMA, and VMC testing software and hardware systems
    10. PLC, HMI programming (Ladder Logic or other)
    11. Experience programming and interfacing with LabVIEW, CVI, C, and Teststand
    12. Industrial signal conditioners such as Dataforth and Analog Devices
    13. Best practices for wiring, shielding, grounding, and signal noise cancelation
    14. PCB design
    15. Creating user-friendly PC-based Graphical Interfaces and HMIs
    16. SQL Databases, datafiles, recipes, and test results
    17. Maintenance of Electrical, Mechanical, and Industrial equipment
    18. DC and three phase Motor selection and control for the application
    19. VFD selection, wiring, control, and programming for the application
    20. Control via relay circuit and selection of safety relays and circuits for the application
    21. Motion control
    22. Industrial communication protocol such as Ethernet and Modbus
  • Ability to understand regular operation of equipment with minimal documentation
  • Strong communication skills, Lean and continuous improvement mindset
  • Organized, skilled in project management, technical writing, and thorough in documenting work
