Site Finance Officer, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital

Job Overview:

Administratively responsible for Finance, Strategic Planning, Patient Access, Materials Managements, Health Information Management and Case Management. Directs the activities for the organization concerned with general business operations, accounting, statistical reporting and third-party reimbursement; prepares detailed financial statements, budgets, cost and statistical reports; responsible for the preparation and review of departmental operating reports and budgets.

Reports to:

  • The Site Finance Officer, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital reports directly to SVP, Southern Region Chief Financial Officer, with a matrixed reporting relationship to the President at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in Accounting or Economics required.
  • MBA or Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association desirable but not required.
  • Certified Public Accountant is desired or ten to twelve years financial management experience but not required with at least 5 years in a managerial position.
  • Two to three years of directly related experience in the healthcare financial services (including accounts receivable) field is strongly preferred.

Essential Functions:

Collaborates with the Executive, Administrative, and Medical Staff Personnel in the following areas:

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services in the department.
  • Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide the scope of services provided in the department.
  • Assesses and improves the quality of services provided in the department.
  • Demonstrates a cost-conscious aptitude in requesting/approving the purchase of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by the department.
  • Interviews, selects, promotes and terminates staff per established hospital policies and Federal/State laws.
  • Ensures that the disciplinary process is administered per established policy.
  • Applies and follows established organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensures visibility and accessibility to all internal and external customers.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments to identify and pursue opportunities for improvement within the organization.
  • Utilizes principles of continuous policy improvement in all work situations to improve organizational and departmental functions.
  • Provides input and review of annual department budget for allocation of resources.
  • Coordinates and integrates the development of appropriate strategies and action plans to ensure the effective integration of the Financial Services Department functions with those of other hospital departments.
  • Assures that the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care services provided within the departments are reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis and assures that appropriate action required by the findings of review activities are implemented.
  • Directs and participates in the development and execution of appropriate strategies and action plans to ensure the effective integration of the General Accounting and Financial Services Department function with those of other department's institutions' long and short-term financial planning process
  • Recommends appropriate actions and strategies to respond to projected economic trends and/or regulatory changes and to facilitate the achievement of established financial objectives.
  • Participates at the Hospital Executive level in formulating, directing, implementing and evaluating the general operations of the hospital.
  • Participates with other Administrative staff in the development of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Analysis of the financial implications of proposed capital projects and expenditures.
  • Ensures that accurate information is provided on a timely basis and assists as needed in facilitating the efficient conduct of external audits, examinations and related financial projects.
  • Provides advice and assistance to the institution and department managers and/or staff regarding accounting/financial matters.
  • Provides advice and assistance to department heads and managers in analyzing and interpreting financial data and reports and in presenting that information to their departments and/or physician groups.
