Job description

Meyer Utility Structures is currently looking to hire a results-driven individual to join our team as a Division Welding Manager. Reporting to the Vice President of Quality, the Division Welding Manager is responsible for providing high-level technical expertise, leadership, and strategic direction for all welding processes across Meyer Utility Structures. This role ensures standardized weld process development, optimizes manufacturing efficiency, and maintains compliance with industry codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API). The Division Welding Manager will act as a liaison between the engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve complex welding issues, manage new product introduction (NPD) deliverables, and drive continuous improvement in weld quality and cost reduction.

What You'll Do:

  • Work on enhancing the current welding program
  • Assist with qualify, write and maintain welding procedure specifications in compliance with applicable codes and specifications
  • Work with all welding technicians and pole school instructors at each location
  • Write and maintain internal welding standards
  • Help educate customers on welding and weld designs.
  • Organize and revamp the in-plant welding schools as needed
  • Evaluate and track welding KPI’s to include the success of pole school and candidates.
  • Provide hands-on welding support to welders, supervisors, and welding technicians
  • Troubleshoot routine welding technique and equipment issues
  • Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and quality
  • Network with internal associates, suppliers, and customers for continuous improvement
  • Participate in internal welding audits/other duties as required
  • Travel to the six manufacturing plants in the U.S and two manufacturing plants in Mexico

What You'll Need:

  • Advanced knowledge of robotic welding
  • Bachelor’s degree (welding engineering) with 8 years’ relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of welding processes, weld filler materials, and base materials
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 procedure and performance qualification
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or capable of achieving within one year
  • Advanced knowledge of FCAW, SAW, and GMAW welding processes
  • Proficient with routine trouble shooting of welding processes/equipment, use of amperage/voltage meters, wire feed meters, and gas flow meters
  • Proficient using various visual weld inspection tools such as fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
  • Able to perform as project manager
  • Must be able to read and comprehend codes, specifications, procedures, work instructions, engineering drawings, bill of materials, test reports, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) desired
  • Effectively present information and work with managers, sales, suppliers, customers and plant floor personnel
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Able to travel within the U.S. and Mexico
