SYSTEM JOB TITLE:           Adjunct Faculty

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and the Political Science Department Chair. 

POSITION SUMMARY: Moravian University invites applications for a part-time adjunct teaching position in the political science department to teach POSC 120 A: Introduction to Political Thinking in Fall 2026. This is an introductory political theory survey course that is also part of the general education curriculum. The adjunct instructor must be willing to work with an existing syllabus and book order of specified texts. Learning outcomes for political science and general education are specified in the syllabus. In addition to in-class examinations, this course works with ten sets of structured reading notes that are submitted online before class in preparation of discussions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach one section of the undergraduate course POSC 120 A: Introduction to Political Thinking.
  • This course meets twice a week: Tuesday/Thursday, 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. 
  • Work with existing syllabus and book order (primary sources and anthology). 
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with the department chair. 
  • Read and respond to weekly student reading notes submitted before class online (most weeks). 
  • Administer and grade in-person exams on paper.
  • Hold student hours for three hours a week.
  • Take attendance at every class meeting. 
  • Submit reports as requested on student attendance and performance. 
  • Complete required administrative tasks, including verifying enrollment rosters, submitting syllabi to the department for approval and records, entering final grades, and completing any necessary paperwork in a timely manner. 
  • Comply with all relevant program and university policies. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PHD, political science with first or second field concentration in political theory 
  • ABD, political science with first or second field concentration in political theory

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Undergraduate teaching experience in 100-level introductory political theory courses
