Job Events information

What are job events?

Job events refer to organized activities, such as career fairs, networking sessions, workshops, or recruitment drives, where employers and job seekers connect. These events can be held in person or virtually and provide opportunities for candidates to learn about companies, submit resumes, and even interview on the spot. Job events also allow employers to meet a large pool of potential hires in a short period, making the hiring process more efficient for both parties.

What types of teams or departments does a job events coordinator typically collaborate with, and how does this impact daily responsibilities?

A Job Events Coordinator frequently works with human resources, marketing, external vendors, and sometimes IT departments to organize and promote recruitment fairs, networking sessions, or company-sponsored career events. This collaboration requires strong communication and organizational skills, as coordinators must align schedules, manage logistics, and ensure all stakeholders are informed. The role involves balancing multiple projects simultaneously and adapting quickly to last-minute changes. Effective teamwork is essential to ensure events run smoothly and meet the organization's talent acquisition objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an event coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Event Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in event planning, often supported by a relevant degree or certification in hospitality or event management. Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities help you stand out in coordinating with vendors, clients, and teams. These skills ensure seamless event execution, client satisfaction, and the ability to handle unexpected challenges effectively.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic event plans and special initiatives that increase brand awareness, expand supporter engagement, grow sponsorship opportunities, and maximize fundraising revenue.

  • Implement integrated marketing and promotional strategies that drive sponsorship acquisition, ticket sales, participation, and achievement of event funding goals.

  • Lead the planning and delivery of events, including galas, golf tournaments, concerts, leadership breakfasts, donor stewardship events, and campaign launches, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality participant experience.

  • Coordinate all event logistics, including venue selection, registration processes, accommodations, audio/visual requirements, creative assets, and event-day operations.

  • Manage event budgets and expenditures, ensuring cost-effective delivery, financial accountability, and appropriate approval of additional expenses.

  • Cultivate relationships with sponsors, third-party fundraisers, vendors, attendees, and community partners to strengthen engagement, encourage ongoing support, and enhance event success.

  • Recruit and support volunteers by coordinating their involvement, providing ongoing guidance and recognition, and fostering a positive volunteer experience.

  • Evaluate event performance through reporting, data analysis, and stakeholder feedback to measure outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform future events and fundraising strategies.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/ college diploma in events management; an alternative level of education and experience will be considered.

  • Minimum three to five (3-5) years' professional experience in special events and special event marketing.

  • Proven experience planning, coordinating, and executing successful events, fundraising initiatives, or community engagement activities.

  • Strong knowledge of event logistics, project management principles, and performance measurement techniques, with the ability to evaluate results and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with donors, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and community stakeholders.

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and professionally in a consultative and team-oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related business applications, including word processing, presentations, reporting, and publishing tools.

  • Creative problem-solving skills combined with sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.

  • Commitment to the mission, values, and ethical standards of The Salvation Army in Canada, with the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other hours as required to support events and organizational priorities.

This position is a temporary, fixed-term contract.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $58,531.20 to $73,174.40 with a maximum of $87,817.60.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
